Love all the work you are doing... the "knob job" is coming up for me as well. I don't even have a readable badge anymore on mine.

I'm also trying to source an old 8274. Since I'm not stateside I'm trying to find one local to my dad so I can have him arrange pickup. He may even do the resto work for me prior to sending it over here. There's just something about the old 8274's... they look right on the front of a 40. The new space-age looking winches just don't fit the look of a 40. Once you've got yours cleaned up it's going to look smokin' on the front of your rig.

FYI my winch is a 5687 Warn Belleview. But the 8274 I heard is a nice step up. But agree love the look and just seems appropriate for this vehicle.

Hmmm... wasn't even aware of the 5687. Now that I go back and look at your pictures the differences are more obvious. Learn something new every day.

In any case, it's gonna look classy on that rig of yours.

Making more progress on the winch refurb... Slow and steady.

Okay wet sanded my paint job and it looks good from 10'. Goes well with the existing patina... ;). Really wanted to get my emblems and lights all put back on so it will work for awhile.

Also dropped in the Cruisercorps water bottle and boy that was easy. $28 well worth it. No modifications fits on stock mount and plugs right in.

And of course installed this little gem:

Drove the cruiser three days in a row the weather here has been ridiculous! Good times!

Well here you go Danny!

Spare back on! And here is a shot of my tire carrier with spacer (all painted T145 btw for your purists - then again the spacers are hardly OEM, neither are the tires, lift, okay whatever lol).

Oh and btw, I used the app "Nudifier" to blur out my license plate. It actually is a hilarious app you should check it out.

And got all the pieces of the winch coated with POR15 and spray painted. Hope to get to some polishing of the aluminum parts and then reassemble and install. I do need a drain plug as I did what was recommended on the forums and installed a drain. Electrical will be a bit as I still need to figure out where the switch will go under the hood or if I want to install it on the winch itself like how it was setup when I bought it. Seems like that could be dangerous having that switch so easily accessible.

And I "think" I found the location for the control panel for the winch. Will require I drill a hole in the firewall so not thrilled about that but not many other options. I'm thinking too I could fab up a little panel and put it where the radio delete plate is... That would be pretty clean - just wouldn't have the circa 1974 control panel...

You finally have a spare!! ... And your winch is coming along nicely!!

I see your weights in many of your pictures... Do you ever lift them Mike? Or are they part of your toolkit?

:p

Why don't you make the ashtray faceplate your control attach location.... Unless you smoke?

I put the weights in the back of the cruiser to smooth out the ride. Nothing like 1,000 lbs of weight to make the suspension more supple... :)

I will check that out - I don't want to do anything that will permanently alter the dash, so maybe that spot gets a little face plate. Thanks!

Hey, I don't call myself 'Genius Tinkerer' for nuthin'...

So apparently POR15 in a couple of layers and several coats of paint is pretty thick... So thick that parts of my motor housing won't assemble correctly and the bolt can't be tightened. Surprising that tolerances are that tight - seriously you couldn't use a bolt that was 1/8" longer? Either sand off the protective coats or find a longer bolt. Figures... :|

Polished up pretty good on top - the sides not so much. I still need to do a final polish with Mother's and it should shine nicely!

I love this bumper and winch setup you have.

I re read this thread and I couldn't find any mention of what color you used for the bumper. Can you please share the details?

Another random question, looking at the plate on the back of the bumper that the winch attaches to, it looks like u made a short and skinny cut near the intersection to the top of the bumper. What was that for?

Hoping to replicate something similar.

Paint is T145 standard Toyota color.

The bumper from what I understand is a OEM option. So not sure what that little slot is for... Sorry.
