Has anyone had success with those cheap OBD displays in the 80-series? I have one of these in my Cayenne and it works great, has temp alarms, GPS, mpg, rpm alarm etc... All works.

When I connect to the LC, it doesn't work. So I bought another one, also around $40. Works on the Porsche, doesn't work on the LC. Probably doesn't support all the protocols.

So any success stories? I don't like the scangauge due to looks and price. For me $60 is the limit. I mainly need it to have a coolant temp alarm and a speedo correction, which probably all have.

What year 80? OBDII wasn't standardized until 1996.

You also have a Cayenne and you're cheaping out on an OBD2 reader?

UltraGauge is what I use. It's a whopping $100. 1995+.

1994- must use Bluetooth reader and phone.

94 was OBD1. OBD2 was mid 95.

You don't go onto owning a Porsche by throwing money around on fancy OBD2 readers, duh.:p

The thing is that the Cayenne is the cheap vehicle here. I bought it first because I couldn't afford an old FZJ80. Currently a Cayenne is around $3000 in good condition and around 100-150K miles, while a beat up 80-series starts at $12K. The Cayenne is also relatively cheap to maintain if you have the base version with the VW engine and not Porsche engine.

My LX450 is 96 so I assume it should have OBDII, and all my readers, including the bluetooth ELM327 read it no problem. Somehow, only the readers with integrated displays.

I also hate the phone apps because they are really not integrated into the vehicle obviously. You need to turn things on each time you start the vehicle.

I use an Android tablet running Torque App Pro with Bluetooth OBDII. I've read where you can change the boot loader in developer mode to power Androids on when power is applied, but have not done so to mine. Torque has speedo correction. You can add as many gauges as you want.

This video shows how to set alarms in Torque.

Refurbished Samsung Tab E 9.6" (my model) are going for around $60 on ebay. It fits well above the steering column, on top of the existing dash.
