What year is this tailgate? (1 Viewer)

In 1977 some tailgates are not stamped with Toyota per the year-by-year thread. But I’m not sure what happened for 1978. Is this tailgate from 1977?

78-79, no indent in the white, and the emblems are up high.

A 77 tailgate would look like the one on the left minus the "TOYOTA" stamp in it. 77 would have the indent but not the stamping

Not exactly. My 10/76 "77" model has the stampings......as do others of the same vintage. Based on the parts diagrams I would say that all "77" models have the stampings; assuming 09/77 started the "78" model year.

I’d want to get back what I paid @Pigeaten’s friend for it a while back. I think it was around $350. It’s a nice tailgate, I can post some pics.

Quite possibly.
Sometimes guys like to intentionally blank out the script on a tailgate on a custom build of domestic trucks.
The opposite seems to be true for the FJ55 crowd. Everybody WANTS the script.
