Spent some time yesterday chasing weak brakes.

The fun continued (this time with a shirt) about 600 miles down the road. Proud to say the brakes are fixed now. Just another hotel parking lot repair in Las Cruces.

Been slacking and have not done much work on other folks trucks the last several months. 20 days of August in the San Jauns does not help :).
Been working on a really sweet 62 (yes, it’s trailer queen quality). Really cool owner @johnmckenna who’s not too active on mud. Los of jobs includes putting in a H55 (done), full carpet kit install from DMP, complete suspension upgrade to OME and then replacing all cooling/heater lines under the hood. Matt @cruisermatt has supplied all the new OEM parts needed for the jobs. He’s got several great parts that make the H55 conversions easier/faster (NSS harness, shifter block off plate, shifter linkage etc…). This truck has been a dream to work on due to the care it’s received with PO’s. John picked it up about 2 years ago. Funny enough it’s the first A440 I’ve pulled that was functioning correctly. Fortunately he’s found a good next owner in the Austin area. So back to the H55 conversion….there are stacks of receipts on this truck and it’s clear the trans has been gone through. The unfortunate part is a transmission shop did the work pulling and installing a rebuild kit on the t-case. You would think they have a book or can research online how to do one. There were zero shims on the output side (yep, lots of broken/worn gear teeth), they put the output oil slinger on the rear output between the spacer and speedo gear :(. They lost the bolt for the spring indent ball so they hollowed out a 1/2” bolt and used that. All good now as we installed new gears, shims etc. and the preload came in around 15-16 inch pounds. Enough commentary. Here’s some pics

Yes sir. Saved that one and it’s on my “wall of shame” in the shop. Here’s the oil slinger found on the rear output (came on 62’s only). In the receipts they put in new OEM idler gears…but there was no oil slinger put on the new gear. The pick shows one I took off a parts case. Also forgot to mention they lost the washer for the shift selector. They used a blue rubber one in its place. This case was not going to last too many more miles

this is awesome Matt. Have another 60 (@BigHighBlue ) coming into the barn this weekend. We will dress up the hubs and send him off in style.

Meant to post this barn event. Our good friend Monroy @fl4031003 updating the spring bushings on his sons 62. Casey @POTATO LAUNCHER was in for the week as well and we all had some good laughs. This is an “eye spy” pic. Can you spot why he was having trouble getting the u-bolts in on this side? We were laughing with Jeff and not at him. He’s definitely far sighted which is the stronger side of my vision as well. Believe me…I’ve done way worse things before realizing my errors :).
