Continued stripping it down. If anyone needs stock 1976 engine bay parts, shoot me a message, I'm planning on gutting the majority of the stock stuff that isn't needed for the new 4bt.

Hoping to take front clip and front & ambulance doors to the body shop to be blasted and primed next week. Then get to start cutting the rear tub (rust) apart for new body panels.

Did this a while back. I got tired of the 20 year old MAACO paint job so I plasti-dipped the cruiser. Took about 5 hours and maybe 15 cans. Very easy to work with and for something temporary, inexpensive and DIY, I'm very happy with the results. It's also very durable and easy to repair if you have issues.

Replaced rear axel seals, the passenger side was leaking. Upon tear down, the drum brakes (passenger) where pretty wet with gear oil. The new work bench worked great as this was the first automotive repair done since completing it. All parts and tools had ample room for a efficient repair.

The leaky seal was placed in cockeyed by some one else at some point prior. This lead me to fully inspect the spiders and found one washer was missing from the smaller spider gear. I had two spares from the front axel rebuild I did back in 2012 when I installed a ARB carrier. I always thought the rear was a little sloppy and simply thought it had some ware. After all said and done the rear axel is smooth,quiet and tighter.

The tool in the middle is a seal driver I turned out from Delrin for the rear seal, the smaller aluminum one swaps out to drive the front inner seal. This tool makes short work of installing seals with minimal trauma for a flush install.

Been driving the snot out of mine - averaging 150+ miles a day to/from work ...love it . Friday was interesting - since we are working on active County roads I generally just dive it into the ditch somewhere well out of the way . Picked a less than optimal spot at an intersection and dove in there , weeds didn't look too deep nor the ditch itself . Turned out , nearly an 8' drop at 1:1 slope - almost did a frontal flop but the nose weight actually helped it , never skipped a beat . The whole crew crapped themselves , figured the truck was toast but it was fine and no damage . Took a bit of work to rearrange the fog lights and dig all the dirt/weeds off the front frame though...lol .
I just wish we could get the 79 series here so I can have a newer Cruiser built at least somewhat like the old 40 , grr .

How much longer do you have to go with TFD?

I could retire as early as 2/16 with 25 years of service, but considering the DROP (Deferred Retirement Option Plan) for five more years. At that point, TFD will be on probation LOL!

Good position to be in... But, be really careful you don't get hurt again... Retirement is to be enjoyed... Just sayin'...

Took the 40 out for a ride, ran out of diesel, a Good Samaritan gave me ride home to pick up a gas can. Drove to the gas station and back to the 40. Poured diesel in and after a couple tries it started back up. Drove her to the gas station, filled her with diesel and when I went to start her, nothing. Had power to gauges but nothing from the starter. Crawled under her and reconnected the switch wire to the starter and she started right up. Gotta love these old girls, pretty simple to figure out what's going on when problems crop up. Slowly get the bugs worked out, next figure out the gas gauge issue. Only works when it wants to and lately not often. Still glad I did the om617 swap.

Firestopper do you know George dudzic? Old school buddy that retired a few years ago.
