I like your anti-window jiggle solution!
The door glass channel is on my list. The PO sent me home with "new" upper channels but looking at them, I'm guessing he bought used. They look no better than what is in there now. Maybe marginally. For now my Ace Hardware wedges work ok.

Drove it for the last time, then ripped it apart.

If I hold my mouth right and roll it down to "just the right spot", I don't get the dreaded continuous Squeak. Your solution is "money!"

I took the truck out for a trial drive today. I got it out on the interstate for a nice long run. I had done some basic maintenance- steering and brake adjustments, oil change, chassis lube, gear oil check, etc after having repaired my exhaust leaks. It runs, drives, steers, stops and sounds like new again. The high temperature header paint held up, so far, so good. Not bad for a 51 year old truck.

what RTV did you use on the header to get it to seal?

This Permatex Ultra Copper. I can’t say it was leaking before I used this, the old gasket was okay without sealer, until it burned through. Kind of a belt & suspenders deal I guess, not wanting to have a do over.

Thanks! And which gasket :D

Changed the oil, checked that the air injection system was functioning properly, made sure all vacuum lines were connected where they are supposed to be, and then took my '80 in for the dreaded CA smog check. It passed! I sweat bullets every time I take it in because it is such a pain if it fails...

Finally got around to installing a new turn signal switch on the Karma Cruiser. I have a box of about 20 good used ones, but I opted to dig into the stash for an NOS one. :grinpimp:

While I was under the dash I noticed that the hazard flasher was bolted down to the firewall boot of the steering column, with one bolt. While I don’t remember why this is so, it is likely that when Tony purchased the truck in ‘92 it already had an aftermarket flasher, which I at some point replaced with a factory flasher. Not having the intermediate mounting bracket, the expedient solution was just to mount it as I found it today.

So into the stash I go. And there I find a used jewel. Yellow zinc still in great shape. I look at the inventory tag and I smile, remembering the vehicle that I pulled it out of… in 1992. Only 40 I ever bought with a Chevy 6 in it. Dented on all 4 corners and driven so hard (without a rollover) that the brace above the hatch had a wind in it!

Most importantly to the story, the husband of the widow that sold me the truck had been a chain smoker. All the hardware inside the cab was perfectly preserved…under a layer of nicotine!

I did a search on YouTube a week ago, there are several “recipe demos’ that show what some others are using. You may find it interesting or a bit crazy. I’d say it was informative and provides a few options

On my small one sold to clean brass cartidges, I use Simple Green in the water. Dawn also works...

I've been working in the jewelry industry for yrs where ultrasonic cleaners are a staple. Years ago we used a mixture of lemon dawn, ammonia and tri sodium phosphate, with some water. It was a pretty nasty mix. Later we found lemon dawn and water was pretty good on its own. Finally we use a product made by Polychem, which is biodegradable and very effective. We use it straight, no additives. I'm not sure where you can buy it.

Had a slow leak in my oil pan. Seemed like it was coming out of the drain plug so I changed the plug gasket/sill but it continued to leak. Looked all over the pan and didn't see anything leaking down the sides or front but kept cuddling up at the skid plate and dripping at the drain..pulled the pan and drilled bout the spot welds and found a layer of hard crud. I ground it off with a wire wheel and found the culprit!! I figured I would just cut out the section and weld in a new piece of 16ga steel . Well the 40+ years of corrosion under the skid plate had thinned out all of the steel and welding it kept blowing out and wouldn't hold without making bigger holes🤬 Broke down and ordered a new one from Toyota. All good now
