Been dreading addressing the passenger hood apron. I’ve only done hammer and dolly work once and it was on the driver hood apron which only had a few creases in it. This one was covered in about a half inch of bondo. And under that it looked like this… every imaginable issue. Cracks, dents, creases, completely blown out and stretched metal. The width of this side was 10mm more than the driver side because it got pushed back and opened up, then someone hit it a ton to ‘fix’ it, which only stretched the metal more. Here we go

4 hours of work. Did metal shrinking for the first time. That was cool. Came out well but I won’t be able to move my right arm....
This looks great! Did you use the shrink disc on a grinder? I've never done it, but I have spent some time learning about metal shrinking. It's a very cool process that I'd like to learn more about...

Mine was half that shipped from Japan (still available on eBay) and received it in a week.
Yup. I bought a pair of new, genuine, Toyota running boards for $140 shipped from Japan.

I used a torch to heat up the stretched spots, then hit that spot with a hammer once to smash it down, then hammer and dollied around the edges where the metal is cooler, hammer on the top, dolly off on the backside where it’s even cooler. The hot metal molecules are excited and more malleable than the cooler surrounding metal. You keep hitting in a circular pattern on the warm stretched metal just outside of the super heated metal and this causes it to flow into the hot center metal and shrink down. It worked great. Here’s some photos. You will see the stretched bulge and it pulled itself inward and flat by doing this. I did this in two areas

E-track for child seat anchors. 2" wide 3/8 plate (attached to 2 roll bar 10mm bolts per side) welded to 1/4 plate to reinforce the E-track. E-track is plug welded and welded up on both ends.

So you mean ratchet straps aren’t the end all of solutions?!

Interesting thought with the e-track. I’d like something for my jump seats more permanent than the current ratchet straps.

I actually like using them for child seat anchors but i didn't have any attachment points for ratchet straps in the 40 and didn't want to drill any holes.
 
After pulling the 32/36 Weber and swapping back to the 75’ carb I rebuilt, I was still having a stumbling issue under a load. I had a brand new fuel pump from City Racer, so I swapped them out.

If you look close, it appears the pump arm on the presumed Chinese replacement was too short, so someone thought it would be a good idea to weld a pad on the arm to reach the cam. The hardened cam core obviously wore out the mild steel as referenced by the photos. Hoping to drive the truck tomorrow after I wrap up a few more things.

Got a call from GF on the way home from helping a fellow Mud member get his 60 series running. Got a call from my GF that a Tesla took too wide of a turn and caught the edge of the bumper on the 40 series. Well Tesla got the bad end of it. only a chipped paint on the edge of the 40 series bumper.

Might find that the pump was worn before and rather than get a new one PO welded a high point to make contact with the cam again.

I like the idea of mounting a rear fold and tumble back seat off the roll bar mounts. I have a late eighties 2DR Montero seat that has a sliding track on the sides. This system would not only prevent drilling holes but just be used to rise the seat enough for better depth for a foot well and maintain head room. Even a possibility for my 73 FST.
