My wife is pretty sure she saw one of those crossing the road in front of us Saturday evening. It was dark, and I was driving, but I didn't see it. We were heading north on CO 14 between Rabbit Ears Pass and Walden, not far south of the WY border. I don't know if moose inhabit that area or not.
Two of them right here, they were traveling down the road until I came barreling around the corner.

I've also seen them on the Grand Lake side of RMNP, quite a few over there, I don't see any reason they wouldn't enjoy the North Park area.

It's my

Its my understanding that overinflating the tire will wear the tread faster. The tire needs to have some compliance to lighten the load on the treads.
Wearing on the shoulders evenly but not the middle underinflated, wearing in the center only over inflated, feathered toe adjustment, wearing only inside or outside shoulder is a camber adjustment. But on 40's we only have toe adjustment available.

We've got a herd of ~8,000 elk in the mountains above town, so my wife knows what they look like for sure. She said it looker taller and darker than an elk. Sounds like a moose to me. Like I said, I didn't even see it. Could have been bad as I was towing my '84 FJ60 on a 16' equipment trailer behind the crew cab Silverado. Luckily I wasn't driving very fast at the time.

We were at the Post Office this morning picking up our mail after being gone for three weeks. Our neighbor works the counter and told us a mountain lion was seen walking down the street in the middle of the day.

They filmed Breaking Bad in my backyard.
We were driving into Canada from Skagway a few years ago and the border control agent saw my New Mexico drivers license. He told us we were lucky to have Breaking Bad. I replied "But you've got Trailer Park Boys". He got a kick out of that.

And back in '75 some friends and I were on our way to Zion National Park for some backpacking. We made a last minute stop for supplies at K-Mart before leaving Las Vegas. We were in a Chevy with New Mexico license plates and were parked in the dark, in the rain, waiting for the last guy to come out from the store. Some guy knocked on the drivers window, so Bill rolled it down to see what the deal was. The guy says "Hey, you guys from New Mexico? You got any dope?"

Now for some FJ40 content. This weekend I sold the '84 FJ60 I bought new in Las Vegas. That'll give me more time and room to get serious with my '71 FJ40 build.

This week was new outer OEM door hinge mounted mirrors and new battery. Last week was NIB OEM dash pad install I picked up for less than $350 delivered. Week before that was vintageteqparts.com LED side marker lights. Week before that one was new OEM brake & blinker lights. Week before that was refurbished steering wheel with new OEM signal switch/arm. Week before that was repaint OEM black wheels to Toyo grey along with new OEM bumpers all around.

Since I took possession of it late August my son and I choose something to tinker with each week of ownership. The 1st week of ownership was replacing all hose clamps with double wire clamps, then came interior lamp, new tie rod ends, flushed frame and degreased. New clutch hard and soft lines as fluid kept turning brown even though PO replaced clutch master and slave. Also replaced refurbished rear hatch stays. Somewhere in there was electronic ignition install.

But best of all! I've rolled from 34,500 original miles, adding 500 additional Bay Area miles in the slow lane as my daily driver!

Big thanks to @ToyotaMatt-parts , Classiccruisers-parts, CruiserCorps-parts, Cityracer-parts, BTH-parts, @Coolerman-wiring, @65swb45-parts & knowledge, and SOR-parts. They all got a bulk of my $$.

I disassembled, cleaned and polished my dash lights today. Had some odd pitting on the plastic lenses that I think was from masking tape used to tape them all together by the PO.

What did you use to pull the retainer wire from behind the lens?
Ugh that. Well I was able to use an o ring pick and a small, flat blade screwdriver to get 2 out. The other 2 wouldn’t budge so I cheated and drilled a hole in from the side, right at the retainer that was just big enough I could push with my o ring pick and grab them with small needle nose. For reassembly, I used metric internal snap rings.

Here’s a good illustration of why people say to strip the paint before you start patching stuff. I knew the over lapping brace had compromised the bottom edge of the bib. It’s a pretty classic spot for rust and this rig is from the north east so...

But take look at the circled area here. You can just start to see some bubbling. Not to bad...

Then you get it back from the blaster

All in all, I can’t complain that was the only spot I saw on my quick inspection that I didn’t already know about already. So far I’m stoked on the dustless blasting. It cost a little more than I hoped. He said it was because he didn’t realize I was going to bring a pile of parts. I guess most people bring the whole car assembled. In the long run though they were able to get 99% of the paint and rust off, largely due to the fact that I cut the rear tub off and you really see in behind the dash. The bright side is it really did show me everything that I had to work on and how good much of really is.

My real dilemma is I have a brand new Gozzard fiberglass bib that never made it on a different rig. This is no car show queen and it would save me a ton of time to simply swap in that unit. Part of me loves the idea of more original body parts, but I left the purist fork in road behind with the Aqualu 3/4 tub. While the passenger fender didn’t have any surprises, it needs some work and once again I have a Gozzard fender skin that never made it on the other project. I’ll sit on these repairs for a bit and think about it while I patch the floorboards and driver fender. On the bright spot the windshield was in great shape and I was worried from all the photos I’ve seen on mud after people having them stripped.

Where'd you get the dash pad? I thought I scored a screaming deal from mega zip, but then they messaged me to say shipping would be $85 more than originally quoted.
