Can be use with a solid flange but the locking hub is nice for flat towing

like most weekends I got it out in the mountains.

In the process of replacing the alternator - I realize the PO fabricated a bracket and spacer to hold a Delco-Remy alternator. Here is an image of the work, which I never noticed under the alternator! The weld job is not bad, but why? Kind of a rhetorical question as we never know why a PO chooses a path.
On the hunt for a May-72 FJ40 lower alternator pivot bracket to complete the project! If anyone has one for sale, PM details - shipped to 92009.

I don't cuss the PO's anymore. I've done something similar, I think because I wanted a 100 amp alternator to mount in there.
I find myself staring at a repair/modification I've done years ago scratching my head to try and remember why I did it the way I did it?????
Find myself cussing myself if I took a short cut.
Sometimes I'll run across a mod I've done and think that was a pretty smart way to go about it.....But most of the time I was taking a short cut.

Finally got the lift installed and replaced the leaky booster with one from City Racer. Adjusted the brakes and can't believe how well the old drums work.
Took the kids out fishing, got pulled over by the cops on the way home. Didn't get a ticket but did get a few compliments on the old bucket.

This is more of an I'm gonna.
I have been in the art studio for the last few weeks and telling myself as soon as I get this project done I 'm gonna to work on the 40 and some other things I have started in the garage.
Went to my local NAPA today and picked up a fuel filter and spark plugs.
While there they gave me a 30% off coupon good on the thirty first so I'm gonna make a list of stuff I need, want or think I need and just tinker and straighten my garage waiting for the big day.
Then I'm gonna really get to work.

I try not to cuss PO’s although MOST of my work in my ‘78 and now the ‘76 as well has been focused on removing PO mods or shortcuts and bringing her back to original or as close to original as possible. As we all know this takes much more time and cash, but totally worth it to me. I think about what it must have been like to own one of these back in the day when they were still making them. Most probably thought they would continue to evolve and perhaps become even more utility oriented/purpose built. But, of course they did not but became legends in the off road community. So the fact that people used them roughly, put away wet and without maintenance is in a weird way kind of understandable. Probably figured they would always make them. That is how I see it anyways.

This has me thinking about the battery hold down I recently made from a aluminum bracket that came with a military seatbelt kit. Nice anodized piece of odd shaped channel but nothing near original. Now I hate myself and down the road someone else will. Ed

I did get out in the garage today and got some things done.
Air filter, gas filters and pulled the spark plugs.
Started to put the new ac delco's in and found them to be a bit longer than the champions I was running.
They will go in but the end is so close to the header that the boot almost touches the pipe so had to go back to the parts store to get some champs.
They didn't have the non resistor type so have to wait until the morrow.
I have used Champion spark plugs since 1970.
I rode British motorcycles and the manuals specified Champion so just used them for all my vehicles.
Also called for Valvoline so used that in everything until about 10 years ago when I switch to a synthetic.
If something works I tend to stay with it making change hard, but in the case of the plugs decided to look into different brands.
In my research of recommended spark plugs champion were on the bottom rung if they were mentioned at all.
I imagine there are a lot of opinions on what is the best spark plug but I have crossed the united states north,south,east and west multiple times with champion spark plugs and never a problem with them so I guess I will stick with them.
