Nice looking truck! What model year?
84. Owner had it since 87 and took good care of it. Did a full resto 5 years ago. Sadly he passed away recently and I bought it from his daughter. She was still clearly broken up and had a hard time letting it go. I felt bad. Told her husband if she regrets letting it go to call me and they can buy it back. We are all just custodians of these rigs anyway...

A struggle to not get down about not getting things done on the 40..
That being said, work is what funds the project when I get to work on it.

Restocked the tire carrier
got my frame galvanized and first coat of POR15 done last night. this thing should last a while!! these picture are in my build thread but i’m excited to be moving forward so ill but then here too!
Looks good. Did you use the POR metal ready primer, or just put the POR-15 on the frame?
the galvanize was done yesterday so with in 12 hours i got it coated so no oxidization yet. still i wire brushed it to get loose flakes off and scuff the surface a little. then used an emery cloth to scuff a bit more. then i used the metal prep that is also an etching and then applied POR15. i hope that’s enough to
make it stick because dang that’s a tedious process.
the frame finish isn’t as nice as a good powder coat would look but this will last better in my environment i think. the galvanizing process makes the frame rougher than it looks in the picture.

Under the category of how many licks does it take to get to the middle of a Tootsie Pop....
I rebuilt the front knuckles on the Karma Cruiser for Tony back in about 1993, when the truck was 24 years old. Tony had relayed to me that the PO told him he had hit a tree with the 40. The front bumper had been replaced with a piece of channel steel, the front bib had a pretty deep crease in it, and both fenders were tweaked.
I ended up straightening the sheet metal on Karma for Tony in about 2006, so that the only real evidence remaining of the force of the crash was this:
The knuckle housing is going to be changed out this time. But the more important note is that after 26 years, even though the truck had no steering issues, once I released the main steering rod, it was obvious the knuckle bearings needed to be replaced.
WAG: 50k on the clock. Hmmm.

They're pretty easy to rebuild. Very simple, straightforward piece of machinery. Looks like all the bits are there except for 1/2 of the clutch knob.
