A bald eagle flew right through the triple pane view window, ending up in the living room. Failure to achieve critical altitude while laden with salmon just snagged from the water. Somehow it survived and managed to fly off once extricated from the house. Took forever to clean up glass while the dogs hid out in the truck. Ended up going nowhere today

I didn't even have to look to know this was Alaska. I have to ask... how do you extricate a bald eagle from a house?!

Rear tire carrier installed. Came out decent.
Also got the light wiring connected, and turned the motor over for the first time in almost three years.
Going to start this girl up by the end of the weekend!

Well, if you’re a veterinarian, you go get your welding gloves and a blanket and enlist the help of a neighbor. Then, you come to your senses, grab a push broom and use it to break out the rest of the glass so it can egress, which it did, just fine on its own. Some friends mentioned that this was the third case they’ve heard of recently. We have no shortage of bald eagles in coastal Alaska.

That"s a stainless spacer to get everything aligned properly. I have another that goes on the lower hinge as well. Basically taking the place of the stock washers.
Is there anything wrong with that setup?

If so, let me know. Maybe I have the hinge mounts flipped? The zircs face outwards. Is that correct?

I think it works and looks good...

Pulled my cam shaft out to properly fix my backing plate.

Organizing/cleaning everything this week to rebuild this weekend.

Drove the 40 to a couple of trailheads. Saturday she took me to Sabino Canyon in the Santa Catalina Mountains where I put in a decent hike to find this amazing pool. It's approx. 40 yards X 90-100 yards long with a deep end of over 10' (dry season). The round trip hike just over 18 miles.

Whats left from snow melt. Soon the monsoons will replenish the dry washes and streams. This pool is known as Hutchs.

Yesterday hike was in Saguaro national forest in the Rincon mountains. The trail head I took was Douglas Springs. I soon leave the Saguaros behind as the climb starts fairly steep and ends up at 4,800'. The total flights climbed was 147 floors, total steps 34,381 and round trip back to the 40 was 15.6 miles. Total time 4:58 or average mile 21 min/mile.

Large hunks of Mica (sheet silicate) riddles the area.

Back to civilization.

That pool reminds me of one of the pools in Dark Canyon (Dark Canyon Wilderness in Southern Utah) not far above the spot where the Sundance Trail reaches the canyon bottom. Great lap swimming to cool down in the hot afternoon. The backpack out of the canyon up the very steep trail is best after the sun goes down a bit and the face of the canyon is in the shade.

The plate washers on all my early tire carriers are about 1/8” thick. One as wide as yours would surely throw off alignment between the latch and hook...unless something else has been modified.

I do still have the stock plate washers. And yes, they are about an 1/8th inch.

But after mounting the tire carrier (using the stock hinge mounting holes in the tub (upper holes) And only using the stock washers, I needed about an 1/8th inch more upward lift to get the carrier to clear the hook.

This probably all stems from the rear sill replacement. The holes in the new rear sill is what I used to mount the hook. They may have been off by a bit causing the clearance issues.

In the end, I don't think it will effect anything negatively as everything clears. I may still drill out the hook mounting holes a bit more to get the hook down a bit. But I kinda like the looks of the stainless spacers...

Nice write up. I live in Prescott Valley but have a friend in Oro Valley, looks like a really nice hike up there. Ron always talks about Sabino Canyon. Need to check that out.

Got the tires back on the Karma Cruiser and took it out for a test drive. Got to do another valve adjustment on it before I leave.

It’s nice being able to see the little details like the copper washers on the banjos. Won’t last tho; not on a trail rig.
