Nice 40 Jen! There's a lot to work with there. What year is it? BTW you don't have to wait to start a thread. You've got the 40 and a camera, that's all you need. Plus the bezel is right side up. You're good to go!

Installed a "new" Eshan Paki soft top on the 73 FST today.

How dare you accuse me of such shenanigans....

Was trying very hard to wait and start a proper intro and build thread, but I just couldn't wait since parts and pieces from the purchase are still slowly filtering in. More to come!

I don't know what it is, but 80s look best with a blacked out front end, and 40s look best with a white bezel.

It makes no logical sense, but it is what it is.

And I know you are aces with a rattle can.... ;)

Today I started working on

the steering column and restoring misc. pieces. Also sanded down the decrepit steering wheel and then sanded some more. I used some epoxy primer then going to sand again. A couple before and afters. On the steering column cover and plastic steering wheel parts I wet sanded with 2000 grit and buffed and polished. I think they came out pretty decent.

Am I understanding that you sanded the black parts with 2000 grit and then buffed them? What compound did you use? More info?

Yes that is exactly what I did. First sanded with 2000 grit. Then buffed with a 3m three stage buffing compound using a small wool buffing pad and a drill. I figured I would give it a try since I couldn't make them worse that what they already were. I was pleasantly surprised.

Think that’s gonna be my next entry in this thread: “Just purchased and mounted a fire extiquisher”!!!

Glad your mishap didn’t get out of hand

Sounds like I should put one back in the 40... I borrowed it so I'd have one in my '97 Crestline (didn't want its mount to be empty).

Rebuilding my FJ40 Land Cruiser can't come soon enough. ... So, since it's been so long since I've driven mine, I've begun to watch videos on how to drive them...

LOL... one of them has bullet holes in the rear glass; and on yet another, the side glass has been completely shot-out ...
... I'm still laughing, er I mean, learning... he then turns around & drives into the on-coming traffic...

I caught my '73 on fire. I think the relay for my electric fan was bad and went to ground (you can see it sitting on the fender). It caught my air cleaner on fire and some oil under my Cruiser. Luckily I had a fire extinguisher close by.View attachment 1565377

Glad you caught it early!!

I have two extinguishers in 44, one 2.5lb (front) and one 1lb (rear)...

I recall, before fixing some leaks, welding a nut on a broken water pump bolt, not realizing I knocked a roll of paper towels off the fender... And it rolled underneath 44.

I noticed the roll burst into flame, through my welder's helmet and scurried to get my extinguisher off the garage wall.

I was able to extinguish the fire before it caught the leaking oil, under 44, and before it burned down the garage and, ultimately, the house.

I'm very careful to keep safety equipment at hand because I have lived a large percentage of my free time with my head up my ass. o_O

Again, glad you caught it before it turned into a disaster!!

Sorry, I can't help.

You'd be much more likely to get help if you create your own thread... Title it "Help! Wiring new alternator" or some such thing.

Not everyone sees this thread, but they would see your request for help, in a separate thread.

Rudi (@bj40green) or Mark (@Coolerman) can likely help you figure this out.

Fire Extinguishers are a MUST for vintage vehicles.

Guess what I'm buying tomorrow?

Yep, like the credit card, don't leave home without one.

You'll have to do some rewiring.
red white blue connector.JPG

S = Sense wire. Is connected to the battery. See diagram below.
L= Light. Is charge indicator light.
IGN = Ignition. Is hot/live when key is turned to "on" position.
