I hear you. I've had 2 total knee replacements, so gravity dictates some of my loading procedures as well.

I've been waiting almost 15 years for my first knee replacement... only 15 or so more to go. So I think we're all in the same sinking ship.

Never had a surgery prior to the knee thing. I'm so glad I did it while I was still "young" enough to enjoy it. I can now hike, do a short back packing trip, can do just about anything but run. Doc said not wise to run unless something is chasing you, then run like hell.:meh: To keep this tech, I cleaned battery terminals and topped off the batt. and hosed off the '40.

Had a great day today. Got to teach my grandson how to drive a stick. He will never forget the thrill of driving the Redneck 40. He did great.

Put the bikini top on tonight. I like the look!

How did you achieve your rig's stance?
Lift height & spring info
Tire size info
If memory serves me correctly, it is a 2.5" lift with Con-Ferr springs and shackles. Shackles measure 4.25 (center of bolt to center of bolt) in the front and 5.25" in the rear. Tires are BF Goodrich KO2, 33x10.50r15. Ground to wheel well measures 37.5" in the front and 36.5" in the rear.

After finding this I decided to take another of my axles, which has much better leaf spring mounts, for a swap, sand blasted it, got caught in a shower and could not believe that within 20 minutes of the end of rain there was surface rust covering what I'd just blasted:bang: So I painted the axle with Krud Cutter Rustex and waited a day before I painted it with Martin Senour Rust Proof MD It came out ok.
New axle shaft bearings, seals oh, and I'm painting all axle components with the same procedure, Rustex and MD. While letting things dry I found some reasonably (or unreasonably) large flakes of metal from my front axle, I'm ok with metal flour but think it may be wise to pull the diff carrier.
Today, I started disassembly of the front axle and found so much grease in the wheel hub that I could not remember putting there. I also found the staked washer behind the first wheel nut quite grooved by the outer bearings inner race, I'd like to know what this is all about, the inner race should not move, is it a worn steering knuckle spindle or were the spindle nuts too loose? Both sides had worn washers. Of Course I have been buying parts for this rebuild for a couple of months now and then found this donor 1977 FJ40 parts truck I figure there will be at least $1200 in parts that I can use on my 1978 FJ40 rebuild ( only paid .6K and the rest of the truck parts will go into inventory!!). So as soon as the axles are done I can bring in the new frame and go from there...

I bought a SOR bikini top months ago, but finally got around to taking off the hard top and installing the bikini today. Hated the idea of drilling the windshield frame so I followed @TEQ 's thread to use the existing holes (with a couple changes due to what was available last minute!).

Was going to leave the doors on til my half doors were done until I saw @Varty Yo and @Flatlanderfj40 's rigs without the doors and went for it.

Good for you! I'm sure you made his day, and memories he will never forget. If your 40 had only had a three on the tree he would have experience and knowledge that none of his friends have, and many adults don't have also.

Thanks! The quality of that machine is very much like Toyota stuff. It was tough saving up for that tractor but I use the heck out of it and it will likely be running strong longer than me! Some of my friends give me grief because it always stays inside and I keep it washed and waxed. It cost me more than any of my Cruisers, can't afford not too!

New Cooper AT3's, 31x10.50r15. Got 2 rebates worth $145, so essentially 1 tire was free and I got lunch money.

Replaced front drum brake wheel cylinders and made the long front pass side hard line from nickel-copper 3/16" tube. Need to bleed, afraid of leaks. ;) Found the soft line to the front axle is not long for this world.

Hesitant to post pix, everyone does such awesome work / has amazing 40's that I am embarassed.o_O

No worries! I cobble the crap out of tons of stuff. The fact that you tackle stuff and make it work is great. Bring them pics! Besides, brake lines are a pita.
