Took my wife to get tacos across the street from the best BBQ in Kansas City.

Finished up a jump seat project I've been working off and on for a while now. I wanted to replace the OEM jump seats with something a little more comfortable and safer for my kids, but didn't want to go with a rear bench. So I modified some LR Discovery jump seats and am pretty happy with how they turned out. They retain the look of the original jump seats when folded up, but offer forward seating when in use. Took a little trip to the lake to test them out.

Ok, we need a thread on this with more details and pics. What year/model Disco? What did you need to do to make?

@Vossie thanks! I agree on the air box. There's just no room for one.

may be a bit late/ far along in your build to do something like this, but i was able to make room for it by moving the battery over and a few other things as well. theres actually still quite a lot of room behind the air box for some stuff, hence my PS reservoir being there.

just an idea. this was the oem air box that came with the 12HT. it mounts to the fender and then to the rad support.

Yes, I planned to do a write up. I will get to it soon, just have a family vacation first. I don't recall the year but I'll look it up. It basically involved completely disassembling the seats, modifying the mounts, then bolting them in. The Disco mounting is not the same on the L and R seat, also, the way they naturally fold is to have the hard sided shell facing inside the cabin. I wanted them facing outward so it resembled the factory jump seats when up. I definitely made more work for myself, but the end result was worth it for me to get the look and function I was after.

I love wearing my z-man tee shirt in NC to see who knows the deal. I don't love the new name but the food and experience hasn't changed from what I could tell.

I love your forty btw! Looks great

@Vossie I'm too far down the rabbit hole to re-engineer all of that. It was a consideration in the begining but between the AC compressor and the Saginaw PS I didnt have room for the battery on the other side. I had considered mounting the battery under the bed and making the right front floor panel the access point but I didnt pursue it.

can understand that.

question, why the issue with space for the condensor? i have plenty plus room in front of my rad for a condensor

Have a good time with your family. Hopefully it will be memorable times for all. :D

@Vossie your 82' has a completely different bib than the 78' and older models. Your bib is basically flat where the grill mounts. The earlier models had about an 1" set back in front of the grill.

On a different note how are you getting coolant to your heater and Turbo? It appears you have deleted the two coolant pipes that run over the top of the fuel injectors.

Has the float reset on the '67 and radiator overflow bottle installed. Took it for a ride to 'test it all out. Found the shores of Lake Travis can get really muddy! Didn't get stuck but had to use every bit of 4WD to make the swimming spot. I believe Java the dog appreciated the cool water.

Preparing front disc conversion on my 77 BJ40 using 83 FJ60 axle. Cleaned all parts and sandblasting. Paint tomorrow and off with the drums.

Just checking this weeks parts arrival. I was told these manifolds for a 2010 Camaro would work. Anyone else use these? I haven't tried fitting the engine in the frame yet, but in just measuring, it looks like the dumps will be right above the frame, not inside.

Hard to be 100% sure from the pics, but I'd agree they apear to be over the frame. My motor mounts look the same, and they overhang the frame by a 1/2" or so. If you've got stock steering the steering box may also be an issue. If power, steering shaft routing will also come into play.

There could be enough space to curve the pipe and run it just inside the frame... but even harder to tell without seeing it.

SAG steering. But I've also heard that with rear dump, a cross over is much harder than if using center dump

oh right, i see. another one of the differences from year to year.

ja, deleted the top pipes. my turbo line joins at where the to[p pipes used to go. just had to fit a reducer. and i did a complete heater delete, not needed here in zim and gives a bit more space in the cab

Getting the steering set up again - did it once before pulling the body apart, wanted to make sure it still fits before paint etc and finding some loose ends I didn't tie up the first go around.

I don't see any sort of slip joint in your steering setup to allow for body movement when the frame flexes. I've read in some cases that the lack of slip can lead to damage to the steering box and/or steering linkages. Is there something I'm not seeing?

It looks like your U-Joints do clear, but for reference, Flaming River makes steering U-Joints that are way more compact if needed.

How much space is there between the steering shaft and your headers? It almost looks like they may interfere with each other during operation.

Now that I've rained on your parade... Your rig looks like it's coming along well. I hope mine will look half as good someday. Keep up the good work, every cruiser deserves a little TLC ;)
