More painting today...engine / drivetrain peices. Doing something a little bit different on color, not going with the typical black but a hammered black. We'll see how it holds up to heat, etc. I've used it on a number of older tools and it seams to be pretty durable. Block and below will be hammered black, head typical black in a high heat paint, valve cover hammered silver.

Oil cooler and some engine splash shields (in satin black).

Also picked up these guys last week. All the old brake lines were trash as they were the smaller sized fittings. This seemed easier than buying the tools and bending my own. Full set that are exact replicas of stock but the larger fittings.

Nice! Where did you find the line kit?

Those look awesome! I wanted to put those on 5 years ago. About time!
You sold me a great truck - solid bones. Just needing a few nips and tucks!

Gave it an oil and filter change, checked wheel bearings and u-joints and a thurough once over before delivering two crosscountry batons to @4Cruisers in SantaFe NM and @PWCO70crusier in Salida CO.
Had an excellent time with my older brother serving as navigator on our 1055 mile trek in three days.

Installed the slightly modified new fuel pump over the weekend, replacing the earlier TBI pump with an LS-appropriate pump. The Camaro LS fuel pump is the perfect height for the stock FJ40 gas tank and fit into my existing mounting ring with only a minor modification on the lathe. I like that the GM pump has it's own built-in baffle tray.

I was also able use the OEM GM locking ring with minor mods. I still need to make some cool clips to replace the temporary washers on the ring and put the hose clamps on.

Last week the new exhaust was installed. Now all I have left is five wires to hook up to the PCM and transmission TCC, reroute the charcoal canister lines and hook the heater lines to the new bulkhead fittings. Missed my mid-May deadline because of travel, but, fingers crossed, we'll fire her up this weekend.

saw and read that this morning. and i take serious offense to the fact that our 40's are being seen as "hipster mobiles"

every 40 owner and driver i know is a real, down to earth, "I'll have my steak medium rare" kinda guy. not a hipster among them.

as for the article, couple of errors that show who ever wrote it has no clue as to actually owning or driving a 40.

they couldnt even correctly label the 45!!! they called it a FJ40 pickup!!

Hipster mobiles my :censor:! I have honestly never seen a "hipster" in a 40 unless it's for a clothing photo shoot...

Any ways, the pricing portions of the article are astounding! My dad paid only $1500 for our 1968 in 2006. It was 95% rust free, completely stock minus the SBC 350, and had no body damage anywhere! You can't buy a complete 40 for $1500 these days!

Just finished altering and fitting the old stock skid plate to the frame. Allowances had to be made by removing material to accommodate the new exhaust, H55 and tranny cross brace. I most likely weakened the skid plate by removing material so I am off to a welding shop I use to have bracing added to strengthen the plate. I have to much money involved in the H55 and TC not to have one for off road use.

Can't seem to find a decent stock radio (for a reasonable price) and I'm tired of looking at a big hole in my dash. I made a radio delete insert out of walnut. It adds a touch of class to a rugged truck. :)

Changed the oil using Valvoline VR1 20w-50 and a Mobile1 M1-301. Captured a sample of the old oil to send off to Blackstone Labs for a health check of the engine.
