I just installed a rebuilt Quadrajet that I have been packing around for over a decade. I started doing research on the quad and did not realize what the hell I had been missing with my old junkyard quad that I carelessly slapped on 15 years ago. I thought it ran ok but man I did not know the first thing about it's function and how my old one was never set up right. I believe it has only functioned as a 2 barrel! And my choke has been jimmy rigged too. Now I look back and I don't believe it was able to kick in the two back "performance" barrels! I put a neat aluminum 2" spacer to lift the air cleaner up, I can actually see the carb and linkages now. All vacuum hoses and connections now new and I'm going to install a vacuum gauge next. Now tomorrow, figure out how to hook up the throttle cable correctly. I have a feeling performance on the 350 SBC will be vastly improved. It's pretty sad when you have something so long that you forget to check/replace basics like vacuum lines. I'm sure it's long overdue for a new vacuum hose on the 4wd system too. My old hoses and lines were so aged and cracked.

I serviced a customer's VJ40 avout twenty years ago that had this issue. I'd already rebuilt his SM420 and t-case before I discovered the issues with his Q-Jet.
So I called him.
How long have you owned this truck?
About three years.
Has it ever felt underpowered?
No.
Well, your linkage is so sloppy the secondaries have basically been inoperable.
Can you fix it?
I can. But...
1. You haven't missed the power
2. Once I fix it, you're gonna want to use it.
3. Things are gonna wear out faster.
A: leave it alone.
15x8.Mark what size are your rims? @65swb45
Thanks Mark. They must have a lot of back spacing because look much deeper than 8". Good looking rims!
With as many medals as you have on your overhead console, you are surely the commander-in-chief of the bezel police.Your bezel is not upside down!
Have fun Mark!!
