Made it earn its keep today!

I have started to notice a "tap" from the driver's side head of my SBC when the truck is cold. The sound goes away after it warms up, but I can still feel a "knock" if I rest my hand on the driver's side valve cover...

I know I have an exhaust leak at the manifold...I'm hoping that's all it is...just seems more pronounced lately.

I got tired of the cargo netting, hanging from the jump seat roll bars of 44... it sags too much. So, I removed it, cut a piece of plywood and suspended it from the roll bars, using u-bolts. Then, I suspended one side of the cargo netting from the underside of the plywood and pull it up (front and back) to prevent cargo shifting on top our heads on rough roads.

Here's the front

Here's the back - Chester is standing where I sleep... showing the added headroom

I picked up two of those rebuild kits earlier today, gotta love NAPA! If you don't mind me asking what kind of hone did you use to hone the cylinders, and any tap oil?? Never rebuilt one of these before

Almost finished reassembling the cooling system

last saturday.......put the doors back on the 45LPB for the 1st time in...8-10 years, the safety straps were not doing much of a job at keeping Bear in. took Bear his 1st real ride in it......he approved ;)

This saturday we had to kill some time in the morning, so we stopped by the local Land Rover shop(DefendersNW) and talked to the owner when he put a new rooftop tent on a FjCruiser. Super good folks.....so I didn't let Bear out to pee on the tires ;)

last sunday......me and the boys unearthed a 65 FJ40 that has been sitting for 16 years in my backyard. (PO did not put dizzy back in all the way)

pretty much how it looked all those years ago.......was even dry

When does the '65 resto start...........................neat!

That Bear is one happy, lucky dog!!

I just went out and checked my backyard, I couldn't find anything that resembled your find :(

Why is there a life preserver in it?

John

IIRC, the doors weren't on the 45 when we took the tour of Gig Harbor in 2004, 12 years ago. Maybe it's longer than you think.

finally got the load tray and installed it as well as the bars onto it. and finally posted something here too :P
Load bed and roll cage on.jpg

nearly there now... just a few more things (like lights) before shes on the road as my DD

Worked on a little side project. The vise needed a new home and it was too dirty to leave, so I cleaned it up a bit. The steel plate is 1/2" and threaded for the vise bolts. It's also recessed into some 1" maple shop ply, and attached from the bottom with some 1/4" bolts. I welded a 1.5" pipe to the underside of the plate which bolts to the concrete floor. Kicked it back at an angle to help avoid banging my shins. Pretty stout setup. Still need to make some edge trim to close off the raw plywood edges.

times flies I guess......but I was able to find the doors ;)

can't recall why a life jacket is in there......but I did have a few boats at one time.

not sure what the plans are for the 65, may sell, may do something with my young mechanic, may put a 2f/disc in, may be yard art(so I can pick parts off it for the 45's) its super solid, just a bit of rot on each rocker panel. even with a bad motor....I drove it to the resting spot, KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.....
