Christmas tree run. Ended up with a 14 footer. Might pick up a Frontrunner roof rack for next year

Went to the dealer for state inspection. I was happy to not have any EVAP DTC codes when starting it up this AM despite the emissions test isn't due til next Nov. EVAP and charcoal canisters are a topic for another day.

Anyway, I failed my state vehicle inspection. Bent rear LCA and tire damage from Cruisers on the Rocks and VA CLCC Fall Crawl. I wasn't sure if the LCA was part of the inspection process or if they would overlook but now I know; despite it driving fine. Was planning on buying a new one once the Toyota online parts sales start which is TBD. :bang: I totally missed the tire damage or would have thrown on the good spare before the inspection.

Local dealer doesn't charge for state inspections and have always passed me. Dealer said our LCA's have been on backorder and could take 10+ days to obtain one. Said I may want to look for an aftermarket LCA. Also said the front brakes and rotors need replaced but would pass inspection. They could not get a price on the Nitto Ridge Grappler, said it was a "specialty" tire.

They then handed me a quote to repair.

I politely declined. I have a set of new rotors and pads in my shed (from the last big Serra Toyota parts sale). I called my go to - Olathe Toyota Parts before leaving and they confirmed LCA is out of stock but could get one overnight. Also ordered a replacement tire from Tire Rack which arrives tomorrow.

I will go ahead and replace the front rotors & pads this weekend. Will install the LCA when it arrives. Then put on the spare tire and go back to the dealer to pass inspection. Maybe take the new tire and they can mount and balance.

I think the dealer was shocked that I declined and walked away. This forum has been super helpful for me over the years, especially on maintenance and repairs. Many thanks to all the supporting MUD members and vendors who contribute to this forum.

I remember when my brother moved to MD and told me about state inspections for his old Honda Prelude. I was shocked that the state had the resources to give a s*** about your leaking shock absorber, lol. Still seems like a totally foreign concept to me. Athough I've spent a good portion of my life stressing about emissions testing, which I at least sort of understand since the smog in the front range can get pretty atrocious.

Bravo on DIYing it. Kind of crazy the state inspections are that thorough up there. Half the time when I take mine here they just glance in the general direction of my truck and charge my card lol

Did you buy your tires from TR? That should qualify for free replacement. You fill out a form, send them some pictures, and they either send you new tire or cut you a check for the replacement cost.

I’d bet you could get that LCA pretty straight by flipping it upside down and working on it with a jack, just be careful about it slipping. Adding weight to the rear of the rig would help level out the link to make this easier.

Installed the 3D printed covers for the holes left in the wheel well arches after removing the 3rd row seats. Awesome quality on the parts, and exceptional service from the owner, Scott Kerr.

I did get the 5 tires from Tire Rack. Good suggestion. I'll give it a try.

I thought about it and you may have convinced me to give it a try.

Might wait to try it after I have a new one in hand, can always use a spare. Had to replace this same passenger side before a few years back.

Wow, must have hit that pretty hard to bend it even with the plate attached. I've always wondered how much that plate adds to the ability to keep the arm from bending.

@turbo8 any theoretical numbers for the RLCA plate?

Caved and let someone work on my vehicle for the first time in long time. Dropped it off for valley plate repair, heater T’s n hoses, transmission preheat hoses, rad hoses, coolant swap, and new plugs n pcv valve/grommet.

Picked up tonight. Now it’s time to go play.

Not cheap. But it does go on sale occasionally. I think I can get around 800 gallons through it before I need to replace the media.

I bought one of these around 15 years ago from Costco at the time. It's well worth it for me. I use as a final rinse, no water spots. The resin lasts me a good year doing regular washings on 3-4 vehicles. They even have a resin exchange program where they send you tubes with new resin and you put your old ones in a box and return (shipping label provided).

Edit - just got an email from them on Black Friday Sale now on: 15% off
Use Code: BLACKFRIDAY
