Another little project I just did this evening...

The USB allow me to plug in my phone, bike computer and other items without having to open my truck. Also will let folks in camp charge their phone if they like without having to have interior access. And ya, the V meter on the USB is redundant and less accurate than the Blue Sea... I’ll replAce it eventually with a non-lit one soon.

The top voltage meter is so I can easily monitor my battery when in camp so I know whether my fridge or camp light is drawing my battery down too far. It’s super low OLED screen draw takes next to no power.

The 12V is for my hot shower pump...or other misc. items friends or others may like to use...again...without having to unlock or open the truck.

Tucks nicely behind my propane tank mount (haven’t quiiiite finished running interior wire yet, but will do that in a few minutes).

PS. It’s all waterproof...

The OLED voltage display is brilliant. Great mod.

Nice setup! I have that same Blue Sea panel and I have no complaints. All their stuff is top notch.

Had the Front Runner installed

Final tweak:

Added a master ON/OFF switch to entire external unit after realizing the OLED voltmeter’s always-on status might attract unwanted curiosity to passing pedestrians when parked in town at night.

Sharp eye! It was actually an experiment with wind noise on the highway

I like experiments! Thanks for the clarification. So, how did it go? Was it quieter mounted on top?

It was much quieter, for sure. That being said, it takes up some real estate on the top of the rack so may not be appropriate depending on your load. I'm also not an aeronautical engineer and am not sure how it would affect its function/mileage. Really, I'm not sure of anything (story of my life)

Very interesting, thanks for the info. I never thought to try relocating the rack fairing to a different location - certainly on top.

Which leads to - why have it at all if it isn't best placed where they designed? I believe their intention was to direct air away from the underside of the rack and eliminate drag on those items.

Could be the noisier placement is still less resistance... Who knows.... Might be worth fabricating a deflector, but wow. Seems like a misstep from FR.

FWIW I made a deflector for my rack out of a sheet of ABS plastic. I just cut out what I wanted in cardboard first, then traced it. Cost about $30 including shipping. Mine is slightly larger than the one Gamiviti supplies.

Forgot I had this, found it cleaning out a drawer in the garage. Just to remind folks what the heart of the beast is.

Also replaced air filter that looked like the PO forgot existed.
