Maybe try to super glue that one first - wouldn't hurt anything to try

Yeah, i did some digging and it appears this is a pretty common issue caused by dealer techs forcing the door open to change the cabin filter.

Also looks like the door can't be removed without removing the blower box, which requires dash removal.

I'll be trying to figure out a glue solution.. or just leave it in fresh air position and forget about it.

You can remove the fan motor / squirrel cage assembly from underneath, which might allow you enough access to repair without resorting to dash removal. I had to replace my fan motor, everything I found said you had to pull the dash. But if you remove the mounting screws and tilt it juuuuust right, it literally falls right out. Posted about it in a thread somewhere, will see if I can find it.

Good to know!

I tried a glue recently on my GF MDX bumper support, that seemed good. I was able to file into shape instantly. The mfg claims better than typical super glue and baking soda combo (google that, some use bone dust).
I just use the glue, to glue parts together once I had them clean. Then came back over seam with powder and glue, filed and installed.

you may have read this factiod already - the recir button is key for having the heater or a/c to start working instantly once the truck is turned on. without the recir button functioning you'll have to wait around 20-30 seconds before heat or a/c start working. that may or may not speed your decision making time.

The heater will not work instantly. It requires the engine to come up to temperature before the thermostat opens and circulated fluid through the heat exchangers.

you know what im saying - with a functioning recir butting the heater or a/c works much faster than if the system was left or only functioning in fresh air mode.

The question seems to come down to is having functioning recirc worth the $450 for a blower box and my time to pull the dash. Probably not.

I've pulled a few dashes before and know I can do it.. but would like to avoid the risk of breaking plastic tabs and other stuff that seems to accompany a job like that.

I would never want to do without recirculating. All it takes is driving through a cow-town...or getting stuck behind a smoky diesel...and suddenly you miss it.

More importantly... 108 degrees in Moab...or 117 through Pheonix...and your AC will have to work super hard if pulling in freshly HOT air trying to keep things cool inside.

Need that recirc!

Based on the threads on here you do not need to remove the entire dash. Just have to remove some smaller bolt on components beneath the airbag and the unit slide out.

By unit do you mean the blower motor/fan or the whole blower assembly? From what I've read the whole box has to come out and be split to remove the door.

I'll do some more digging but TonyP reported the dash has to come out to remove the whole blower box here: IMPORTANT: Check your HVAC recirculate door and answer Poll

I mean the whole assembly.

I want to clarify that the whole DASHBOARD does not need to come out.

I'll need to find those posts. Or I guess pull the glove box and have a look.

While I don't buy into reading the FSM word-for-word on stuff like this I generally trust TonyP's wrenching abilities..

Took some work to swap out my Rotipax for Slee’s Maxtrax Mount...but only because my early Slee rear was made before their Maxtrax Mount existed. Trimming an inch to off each side of the spare mount plate did the trick, with steel to spare ...

Nice mod, only 1 question though, what's the purpose of the cast iron skillet or should I ask where you mounted it? :hillbilly::hillbilly:

@RET2 pointed out ease of theft...and he’s right. Came up with a simple solution to prevent theft of my propane tank that doesn’t rattle or move...

PS. Temporary solution til I find something lighter...but this works.

Would advise NOT taking Saline Valley Rd. ? Good solution though

Hmmm...
Is that where that ol criminally insane Ralph guy lives? ;)

No, it's just 25 plus miles of some of the worst washboard road that causes self destruction of any thing thought to securely fastened. Now that you have outed me I will use it in future defense when needed.
