In my 2013 LC, the manual specifically referred to the 4 gallon “reserve”. Does the 2018 manual also refer to a 4 gallon “reserve”?

We had a similar discussion going about this topic on the Tundra forum a few weeks ago , and someone slammed me for calling it reserve. LOL

Several people over there claimed it was a fuel pump cooling issue that forced Toyota to try and keep several gallons in the tank at all times. I have to say that I was not really buying it.

Whatever it is the Tundra's do it too, so do the current Nissan Titan's and Armada's.

That is say they are empty fuel level warning lights on / 0 range showing only to find out you still had 5-6 gallons still in there tanks.

I traded my 17 Platinum Tundra for my 18 Cruiser, that Tundra had a 38 gallon tank and typically when the fuel light was on with 0 range showing, it would take 32 gal prox to fill its 38 gal tank. Same sort of deal, 5-6 gallons still in the tank when all the gauges said your out of gas. LOL

I will try and remember to check the 18's manuals when I get home tonight.

@cc1999 I remember the old mercedes fuel gauges read "R" for reserve rather than "E" for empty. Maybe the Tundra guys never made it that far in the owners manual

I wonder if the empty/reserve point isn't the minimum where you can operate at any allowed vehicle angle? Which, by the way, where is this published for the 200? Didn't see it in the 2013 owner's manual.

I just made my first fill up on my new 18 today.

I noticed the new 18 took a lot more fuel to fill then I was expecting.

With all the other 200s I have owned and still own one of my 2011s. When the low fuel 0 to empty light comes all the others seldom would take more then 19 gal to fill basically there had always been 5 gal still in there when they showed 0 to empty.

With my new 18 the light came on and I hit 0 to empty and it took 21 gal to fill this morning. Going to have to watch this to see it was a fluke or if Toyota finally updated the gauges and warranting lights to read more accurately. On several occasions with the other cruisers I would take them well past the 0 mark without much worry since I knew it had another 5 gal in there, basically I was pretty use to screwy way the fuel gauge worked on the older 200s. I probably should not try that tactic on this new one.
Which I am glad to see it read more accurate on this 18. Just need to get a feel for exactly what this one is telling me. Should know more after a few more fill ups.

Since we like to drive anomalies to closure, it would be very appreciated by myself and other pre16-URJ200 drivers to learn of the actual reserve capacity applied by Toyota and how many actual miles that translates to. I have tested and yielded ~45 miles and have read some of the others have yielded ~35-40 miles.
Please run your tank dry and let's see what the new reserve capacity is in highway miles.

I think the farthest I ever pushed my 2011 was about 50 miles past the 0 range point.
Best I recall it took about 22+ to fill it.

After filling the 2018 this morning taking 21 gal, I am not sure I will be trying that with it anytime soon. LOL

Finally broke down and got a set of weather resistant floor mats. To be perfectly candid, I’m not really partial to the look or feel of the weather resistant mats, so this on top of the fact that we live in San Diego, didn’t really make it a priority. Although muddy mats are no picnic either

I first eyeballed the Maxpider mats about a year ago and dropped them in my amazon cart where they sat. Well not sure how they dropped from $80 to $27, but that’s how Amazon rolls from time to time. I considered it ‘an offer I couldn’t refuse”.

I really like them. They have a softness the other mats don’t seem to have and I think they look pretty good considering the protection they provide. The 3D fit and finish is really good!

Had those in my old 4Runner. They did look very nice, but were a bit of a pain to clean once muddy: seemed to pack into all the little holes and not want to come out. But since you are in San Diego, that probably won't be as much of a concern.

Prices are back up. But $130 per set seems reasonable, at least for the black set. I have grey interior and the grey set is full price. Should I do the contrasting look? Is yours also black on grey?

I'm in San Diego too, but with the amount of camping we've been doing recently, been needing a bit more protection. I may just bite.

I understand it is a cooling issue, but it also works for the numb nuts issue where people think they are still driving their electric car? I normally keep driving until my piss bottle is full, that gives me about 1/2 tank so I fill up. Guess I could carry a bigger piss bottle, but then I might over heat my fuel pump

All within the last week I've installed Toyota leveling spacers and had 275/70r18 BFG KO2's installed. Loving the look so far, but only have about 12 miles on it since the change.

Speaking of those Toyota 2" leveling spacers.
I have them on my 2011, and did some measuring and comparing my 11 to my new 18 last weekend and noticed my the 11' and 18' are setting exactly the same height front and rear.
I am now wondering if Toyota finally just started including them on the 18"s.

My guess would just be the older suspension has more wear/sag, and the 18 has a fresh suspension. I can remember way back when a buddy replaced his truck suspension with new, original components it seemed like he put a 3" lift on it because the old springs had slowly sagged over time. The new LCs don't come from the factory with spacers installed.

The ones I got in my generic set were pretty unique. It's the pictured chrome ones. We need a spacer thread to talk about these.

The nuts I got were like the shorter black one you have pictured. There wouldn't have been enough room for the longer chrome one in your picture.

What's interesting is for my set of 4 spacers, they provided the longer chrome nuts for the front axle positions. Yet the black ones for the rear.

Obviously the longer chrome ones engage more threads. But wonder if they are just more stable for the lateral loads on the steering axle? I asked the seller for another set of longer nuts for the rear axle spacers which I got. I've been at max GCWR of the vehicle when towing. All seems well in the time I've been using the spacers.

Today's project was not really ON the 200, but it was a directly related accessory, so here it is.

Years ago I was deep into mini trucks, and a common problem was dealing with rusted spare tire winches. So I took the handle parts from a truck I parted out and made a "shop" handle, that I could hammer on the end and really crank on the handle.

The copper pieces spin freely, so it was a great tool for raising and lowering tires when at home.

No more mini trucks now, so I got to thinking... Cut off the hook, drill and insert a piece of rod, new tool for the 200.

Before, compared to end from 200 tool kit:

My welder isn't currently setup, didn't feel like messing with it for one quick tack, so I figured I would just make it a super tight press fit. Drilled a 15/64" hole, then used a 1/4" bolt that I sanded down with a strip of emery paper, hammered it into the hole. Done:

Entire project took about 30 minutes. Works perfect. Sprayed some satin black paint to keep it from rusting.
