After 350,000 miles, the center control buttons end up wearing out (well, the internal coating of the button). Thanks to this forum, members have tracked down the correct replacement components to "rebuild" them.

I would encourage anyone that has button issues to spend the $5 and tackle the job. Very simple, only need a small pick and a screwdriver.

This thread has all the info, and a great video: 100 Series Button Repair How-To - A/C, Defrost, Recirc etc - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/100-series-button-repair-how-to-a-c-defrost-recirc-etc.1111051/page-5#post-15278680

Working on installing a 200 series Kaymar tyre carrier, now just need to sort the latch position along with replacing the bumper reflectors with some brake light / indicators

Had a squeak coming from the rear end. Worked on tracking it down with a stethoscope and was between the shock and the upper control arm. Had a trip planned so decided to run it as is. On the trip we noticed the noise went away and didn’t come back so figured I should look again when we got back.

Driver side didn’t look too bad.

But that passenger side…..

I’m wondering if the squeak I have is the bushings or potentially this. What’d you end up doing? Bushings swap and other rubber pieces are my next to do after this windshield gets installed.

I have receipts that the previous owner had the UCAs replaced in 2020 with some aftermarket units. If I was 100% sure new OEM bushings would press in I would go that route. Since I have some uncertainty there, I am just going to replace both with new OEM UCAs. I am also going to add some head shielding on the passenger side since it seems to get cooked more from the exhaust pipe that runs adjacent.

Finally broke down and bought the "correct" and overpriced Toyota bulbs for the seat heater buttons. Aftermarket ones were too long and the light bled into the HI an LO areas and lit those up even when off. Excuse the dust--not my daily just my trail rig! Needs a good cleaning.

I changed out front shocks. No idea if those are OG at 284k miles. Did the rears overnight and after work while the temperature was only 87 degrees. I'm stubborn, and I might hurt myself in the extreme heatwaves in Maryland during the day with temps getting up to 100 degrees right now. I finished around 3AM on the rears, and sorry no pics of those. I just wanted to get out of my dirty garage and home to the shower. The rears were not a nightmare at all like some folks report, although if you were to have rust, and either of those top nuts got stuck, you'd be in for it. This is why I had no problem flying to Alabama to buy my Land Cruiser. I was enticed by the ZERO rust on it. So far, a great investment in my time and money. Also, I anti seized the snot out of everything, so in another 283K miles when I do these again, it'll be a breeze.

Just fitted the 200 Series steering wheel including hardwiring the (left side) controls and illumination on my 2001 (1HDFTE) with just the 6-Pin clockspring and without a third party module :steer: I wanted them for years!

I havent run the wires behind the dash yet, as I hope I will get the right side to work as well.

@100ovrlndcrzr I've been curious about doing something similar... Does the newer airbag hook up easily as well? I'm curious if the 200 was ever offered without the right side buttons (just a blank cover)... lots to look into there, I suppose.

I recently found a good deal on a Slee single swing out rear bumper that I just couldn't pass up. This thing was heavily neglected though and the swing out bearings were completely rusted out. Over the last few weeks, I rebuilt the spindle with a Slee kit, gave it a fresh coat of paint, and mocked up a 2in receiver for a bike rack.

I also ran into some issues though...

My 2003 LC has the pass through rear crossmember (thought this was only on LX's?) and 6 of the bolts don't work. The 4 bolts in the center don't line up, which is ok according to Slee, but I also can't figure out a way to tighten the 2 nuts that go in the back side of the frame. Anyone with a 2003 and Slee rear have any tips?

The tire carrier also sits leaned back by a few degrees. I think this is due to the right side not being perfectly level/aligned, but it also could be bent I suppose.

Pulled the front passenger spark plug this morning (not sure the numbering system) to take a look.
I’ve never been one to deduce anything from looking at plugs other than if they are soaked, so posting pics for any thoughts.
07 168k guessing they might be OG. Combing through service reports now to see.

Fixed my drive side speaker issue. Thanks to the many posts.
Accessed the wire harness by pushed the rubber boot back & as suspected broken & frayed wires. Replaced 3 sections of wires, wrapped with heat shrink & mission accomplished. Bluetooth audio works again.👍👍

What do you mean by "newer airbag"? If you are wondering if your old airbag detonator will fit, it should. Putting the detonator from my '01 into the 200 Series steering wheel, was a very tight fit. The hole pattern is the same. And it is the easiest part. Hope this helps?

The same issue can happen with the wiring from the body to the tailgate.

In case you discover that some of your rear lighting does not work…

A couple of years ago, my completely trouble free LX had an intermittent problem… while driving forward from a stop, the transmission would intermittently not want to shift out of first gear… had to drive home from lunch about 5 miles in first gear only.

After much research and puzzling over the issue, and a whole lot of entire vehicle assessment, I discovered that one of the back up lights was not illuminating. No codes set.

So I opened up the wiring in the tailgate and discovered that 4 wires were seriously chafed, cracked open and intermittently shorting to each other.

I replaced the entire section of wire and the back up lights began working correctly. Consequently, the issue with not wanting to shift out of first gear went away and has never come back.

My assumption is that the chafed tailgate wires and backup light issue was intermittently causing the backup lights to come on while I was driving forward… And PERHAPS, the PCM or transmission control module saw power across the transmission reverse switch and got confused. Thus, not allowing the transmission to shift out of first gear.

Just a semi educated guess… but problem resolved by repairing the rear lighting wires.

Weird-
