Repacking my 🐻ings and installing dba rotors in front, centric rotors in back. Oem pads all around. This is my first time working old school bearings that are serviceable. I cleaned out the hub and bearings and packed 1/2-2/3 of a can of mobil 1 synthetic grease in both the bearings and hub. I figured id set the preload on the one side i did and then start the other side while i wait for hub flange gaskets to arrive.
Whellppp.... Something didnt feel right. When turning i felt resistance in a section of each turn... Initially I thought that ive packed too much grease in there and had an air pocket or something. But after wasting 30min loosening and tightening whilst turning... I decided to unmount it and inspect. Good thing i did. Picture explains it all. Looks like new front end bearings are in order. About to be 'on' order.(hopefully from kurt from cruiser outfit @cruiseroutfit )
No idea what i did wrong. These bearings were fine as i was packing them.

Edit: ordered new bearings and they got to me lightning quick. (Ordered from @cruiseroutfit monday morning and my package arrived in the bay area on Wednesday morning) After tapping in the new bearing races i know for sure that i had my outer bearing backwards when i popped the outer bearings race when seating/tightening. Good learning experience minus the frustration/time/money though.

Oil change, 5 tire rotation, greased all 16 zerks my truck now has (4 u-joints, 2 drive shaft, 2 FUCA, 4 RUCA, 4 RLCA), chassis wash (easy when the wheels are all off), body wash, quick wax, window polish and sealant. Finished off with the new 200K high mileage club badge. This is about 45k miles late, and it'll likely only be another year and a half before she's ready for the 300k. (don't mind the smudges.)

She gets the garage tonight. Tomorrow she's back in the driveway and the W123 gets her spot back.

She's got a date with the doctor in 2 weeks for a partial front end rebuild (complete new LCAs and bushings/LBJ, rack bushings, TREs, diff bushings). Then @JT4runner and I are going to tag-team her for a paint correction and ceramic coating.

Do you keep track of how much you have spent on her? I am really curious about the cost of all suspension R&R.

Wait what..? Roller bearings don't just pop out of their races that easily, I don't even understand how that could happened. Might be something worth talking to Kurt about to avoid doing whatever it is you did on the next service.

I started adding it up in my head real quick to answer.

It's not been cheap.

Wait what..? Roller bearings don't just pop out of their races that easily, I don't even understand how that could happened. Might be something worth talking to Kurt about to avoid doing whatever it is you did on the next service.
i JUST disassembled the other side before reinstalling the bearings to ensure i didnt flip them 180° and make sure my rear seal was correctly orientated. I know i did something wrong but cant put my finger on it. Reguardless--new bearings for me should last another 200k. And learning as i go. The only thing that i think i could of done is install them 180° flipped from where they were supposed to be orientated. (And its taking alot of man-card surrendering to say that... Im a aircraft mechanic for goodness sakes. Why am i striking out on automotive hurdles). To my defense i was buzzed while wrenching.
Edit... To be clear. I dont think i actually had them 180°flipped to cause it... I am 'almost' positive i double checked... But with slight intoxication and the fact its my first time wrenching the job... Im saying its a possibility.

I bet i am suppost to have the outer bearing 180° from the way it is or something. Pg sa-11 on the fsm is definitely clear on the inner bearing. But for dummys like me, convoluted in the attached picture. Idk. Ill figure it out when the new bearings arrive and after reviewing some homework from 2001lc's threads on this service.

That looks correct from what I can see when I did mine a few weeks ago. Follow these (2) videos step by step (you might need to reference one another - I feel like one or the other missed a step that the other did cover) and you should be golden.

Ive been following those videos, (great resources along with 2001lc's posts) but at this point i think i overlooked something simple. If i figure it out my mistake ill post it up.

I keep track of my expenses to a fault. My spreadsheet tells me that I have sunk about $13000 in to this 21 year old truck!
That includes baselining, maintenance and upgrades. And I still keep looking at LX570s for sale!
 
Is that a custom panhard drop bracket? I don't see it on their website

It's not. @Delta VS was at HundredsintheHills this year and had a few, early production run. Maybe reach out and see where they are at with them now.

Ordered a @pfran42 light kit to put in next weekend, put in new headlight bulbs (one low beam looked FACTORY and I'm at 204k!!!!) reclamped a power steering line, greased zerks for a little clunk in drive shaft, cleaned interior after these 2 mongrels got it dirty, checked heater T's and did some general tightening, removed the broken foot pieces from where my rear spoiler used to be, started a list of suspension upgrade/refurbishments, hauled kids all over creation.........love this truck.
 
More Alcan 5000 prep:
  • Replaced bad SPC ball joints with their new ball joint kit
  • Installed the Delta Systems panhard drop I got at HIH.
    • Dropped 3" - nearly level now
    • Once loaded with gear and 50gallons of gas it'll be level
  • Replaced front sway links with Trail Tailors extended version

Besides the obious "it's level now", what benefit is there to the panhard drop? As in, in actual effect? That'll be the last piece of my complete suspension not replaced, wondering if it should be done.

For starters, on a suspension lifted truck, the rear suspension won't have the tendency to load/unload left-right when going over bumps. That was the first thing I noticed and I didn't like after raised the suspension on mine years ago. I'd like to add this panhard drop kit too!

Taken directly from DVS's 80 series panhard lift and edited, "This drop bracket levels out your panhard bar after you have done a lift to prevent the typical wandering of the backend. It is common after a lift in the Land Cruiser to get a ‘darting back and forth’ movement that makes you constantly correct your steering as you drive. The panhard drop bracket fixes this problem by re-aligning the panhard bar to its factory configuration."

I only have a few miles on it and I can say the rear end sway is much better over uneven surfaces - like crossing grooved lanes at speed!

Did you replace your original bushings at the same time?
 
Yup, they are available now. Just haven't had a chance to update the website for 100 Series parts yet. Finally do have a devoted 100 Series section (for upcoming bumpers, etc), just have to start filling it out.

I notice the slight wandering on the rear end ever since I added spring spacers in the rear on top of OME springs. I am interested in a drop bracket if I find the price affordable (to me). When is it expected to go on the website?

I also think the mypanhard bushings are past their life expectancy.
