What hard parts would you like to see available for 80s?

Bring back the rear metal bumper wings for us guys with the stock bumper whose wives will not let us drop two or three grand on a badass dual swing out system.

Plus one for 3fe accessories and definitely alternator mounting brackets

@ralphy1997 thanks for getting us back on track. I really like the idea of making the simple things which just aren't available or seem to have ridiculous prices at the dealer. I can't imagine making money off those parts, but if it is possible to break even, at least it is something to do other than sit around and watch TV

Another vote for a 3-FE York compressor mount

A huge vote for solving the seat issue, since we ALL want an armrest and most of our 2-300K mile chairs are toast. My vote would be for the Land Rover Disco seats, cheap and readily available in great condition with armrests. This would mean an adapter for the seat to the base, and either making the recline controls mechanical or making a switch plate (power seat adjust is on the center console). Other seat options would be FJ Cruiser, Sequoia, Minivan captains chairs, Trooper, and Montero. Downside is most of those seats are in the same condition as the ones we have.

this is it. a plate that allows for other seats to be dropped in easily. my seats are done and there is no easily identifiable solution.

I think NLXTACY is right, a universal adapter plate is unrealistic. I think some consensus would need to be achieved to which seat/seats the adapter would be for. I know some guys have done WRX seats, but I do not think they have armrests, and really, that's all I care about. So, the criteria would need to be readily available, arm rests, and obtainable in good condition. Which means they would need to be pulled from something with a short life cycle.

I added the mini-van captain chairs for a couple of reasons. One, minivans are plentiful. Two, IF the second row seats were used, they do not get as much use (possible seatbelt issue). Three, and I think the coolest, some minivans have second rows that fold over flat. This feature could be handy.

For my 60 I bought a set of 2010 RX330 heated/electric/tan leather seats. Mounting them was A LOT of cutting, grinding, welding, grinding, measuring and more grinding. Waaaay too much time but they look great now. They came with armrests which was a big win. Seats feel great too and leather was perfect. I wouldn't mind those in my LX.

Rx, gx, 4runner

Rx, gx, 4runner

I guess the reason I am reluctant to swap with another Toyota seat is I very rarely see a Toyota in the junk yards, and when I do its typically a GENII 4Runner thats in worse shape than my own. I have no doubt there are tons of options, but what cars do we often see in the pick-n-pulls with interiors in good enough condition to merit the swap? Though, compared to the cost of upholstery kits and replacement foam becoming scarce, popping some cash for a newer model seat might not be out of the question. I don't want to hi-jack this thread on seats, but this is a boat we might all find ourselves in as these trucks age.

This was my line of thinking. $800 for seat covers and still no armrest. I've seen great condition RX/GX seats on eBay for $600-800. Shipping was around $150. I've just been waiting on something to match oak that was nearby.

X2 For a specific seat mount and a 3-fe York mount.

Everyone, please stop the thread-jack with discussion of seats and discuss that stuff here:
https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/replacement-seat-options-and-mounting-ideas-for-80-series.846189/

Lets keep this thread to the topic of the title.
not to mention his thread title is one thing, but if you look at his text in the first post, he is clearly talking about BOTH replacement parts and new aftermarket add ons. Let's let the OP decide whether we're on track or not.

X3 on seat bracket. I've got my eyes on some BMW M3 seats that would be sweet and so comfortable for long periods behind the wheel.

Shoot; you could probably have a whole line-up of seat brackets.

I'd like to see some gutter mount side ladders :hmm:

Sumthin like these

3FE upgrade alternator mount!

3FE upgrade alternator mount!

Seems as though this is a gaping hole of need! I have experience with the FZJs so I am looking up the 3FE diagrams. I guess I need to educate myself on this one.
