After suffering in my 40 all day last week. And, then sitting in Joel's 40 and seeing how much more comfortable it was I finally got around to installing a new drivers seat in mine. Man, what difference!

Much better Kev, I think I felt my ass touch the tub a couple times at the dirt devil!

I'm ordering parts for a knuckle rebuild, anyone have a 54mm hub socket I can borrow?

Got deep into the preload arguments and about made my head explode. Any local, tried and true method, or advice? I'm going with a new wheel bearing kit.

I’ve got one you can borrow. I’m in Fairview, but am in Franklin/Cool Springs most days for work. Glad to meet you somewhere.

Most stuff on preload I’ve read was to use a fish spring scale, but Jonesys Offroad has a good YouTube video on setting it by hand I’ll dig up. That’s what I used when I did my rebuild on my old 62.

Thanks Cole! I'll PM you when I have the timeline figured out.

got the OEM stock GM CS144 alt working today...using some parts from NAPA with no interface with the factory alt gauge or idiot light. IN my case I don't care about the factory alt gauge or idiot light not working. 1986 FJ 60 with 5.7 vortec from 99 GMC youkon. CS 144 is the optional HD alternator for this engine. Previously I had a "one-wire" custom CS144 alt, but I wanted to get setup with a stock type alternator so that if something happens I can likely get an alternator anywhere that fits a GM pickup/suv of the year of my engine. So for its good..putting out 14.3-.5 volts and I let it run about an hour since the batteries need charging and I needed to burn off some of the crap gas too. Two wire connection on the control plug and the normal connection from the alt power output that runs direct to the battery. I'll post pics and details in the 60 thread section. This would work for anyone that wanted to run a CS-144 alternator with any engine combination. I've come across some other plug and play options too, but since this worked I'm not sure I will bother in testing those out. Anyway short term test and setup today..nothing got hot and alt was putting out good power (denso alt from Rock Auto...GM CS 144) Optional alt for various GM cars/trucks. But for sure on 1999 GM suv/pickup with 5.7 vortec engine. There are some other variations of the GM CS-144....I used the stock stype for the noted gm pickup/suv.

Brilliant, man!

Good stuff, Jason!

Huge thanks to Roger for all the help and the use of his shop once again. Still have a lot of details to finish up but it’s gonna be worth it.
