Ouch Rick, bet that startled the hell out of you, not the kind of noise you wanted to hear. I like the new rack. Same rack that I have looked at for the 80. I want to see one in person first.

On another note the 62 I aquired from Matt Jordan got the front and rear axles rebuilt new bearings seals, calipers, pads, brake master, lines etc.... Got a thermostat and new fluid today. New intake and injectors later this week or maybe this weekend.
Hoping to get the old gal back in shape after sitting for 5 years. Will be the loaner truck for the shop.

Well after a few years of tolerating a leaking radiator, that was "repaired" I decided to pull it and put in a good one. But once I had it pulled out I decided that since I was in there it was all gonna be new. So I'm picking up new hoses in the morning from Ralph Hayes and the new water pump and gasket will be here Tuesday and Wednesday from amazon!

She was covered in grime, so after this pic I hit it with the power washer before I tore it down
The ends of the pipes were in decent shape but I coated them in some POR 15 for some added protection
Wasn't going to replace the oil cooler hoses, other than the one out of the water pump. But as I was working I said what the hell and put in new ones....gotta order one for the top, thought heater hose would work but it kinks too much.

Got a quick oil change in preparation for driving to asheville tomorrow. Left the place and oil light comes on, check the paperwork and they put 4.5 qts in my 80. NEVER EVER GO TO THE CHECKER LUBE IN SENECA!

I've always done all my own service. Specifically for the reason Kevin mentioned
When I lived in the Keys a guy I know bought a brand new Ford Ranger and took it in for the 3,000 mile check up and oil change. Two blocks from the Ford Dealer, on the way home his motor seized, no oil. They did everything but put oil back.
He called me and told me about it and said they wanted to put in a new motor. I told him "They cant manage to do an oil change right, are you going to let them put in a motor, I'd demand a new truck" He finally had to go direct to Ford to get a new truck.

Between jobs packing and house stuff I thought it would be quicker to just get it done. I've done it before and it's not all that bad even with my banana hands. Try to save time and ended up wasting time. Either way lesson learned and I made it to the airport in Asheville on time with no issues. The 80 was a little sluggish on some inclines but all in all a nice drive

Found a used OEM roof rack that ACC had removed from another FJC and replaced my broken one. The downsided was that one of the corners on the roof got pushed in and one of the nutsert clips that the rack bolts to through the roof skin had come loose.
This meant I had to drop the headliner to retrieve the clip and push the dented roof back out. You have to pull almost every interior plastic panel to drop the headliner, which meant emptying out the back of my cargo area (too much junk in the trunk) all the way to the sheet metal floor pan. Spent a solid 6.5 hours doing all this. Ughhhh.
This meant I had to drop the headliner to retrieve the clip and push the dented roof back out. You have to pull almost every interior plastic panel to drop the headliner, which meant emptying out the back of my cargo area (too much junk in the trunk) all the way to the sheet metal floor pan. Spent a solid 6.5 hours doing all this. Ughhhh.

Hot Damn Rick.... thats a lotta work for one bolt. I think I would have put my faith in the other 11 to get the job done

And leave a 8mm hole in the roof exposed to rain?!
Also, two bolts go into the same nutsert bracket which is held onto the subframe by a retainer clip. It was actually this retainer that had come loose and therefore the nutsert bracket was just spinning. Weirdly designed system....I should have just tack welded all these in place once I had the bolts started at each cleat.

Y'all know I don't roll like that.
Who knew they matched the fan clutch with the foam insulation.
Finally got my oil galley plug sorted yesterday. Visions of this popping out had been haunting me every time I took a long drive anywhere. 
Went super slowly and used lots of cutting oil. But still had a scary moment towards the end when a tiny corner of the die broke off.
That's what I get for using a junk Dewalt tap sold at Home Depot. Thankfully I was able to clean it out and it was just a tiny fragment.
Yes I did take the head bolt out and plugged the opening with something to keep
from falling in there. Also kept the shop-vac running to suck up all the chips from drilling, etc.
Ended up using a 5/16" x 1/2" set screw and a generous amount of red Loctite. It's in there good so hopefully I never have to worry about this again.
Also enlisted some professional help, but this guy left my toolbox a mess!
