Worked on the cruiser, replaced a few hoses, resolved egr issue.

Loaded up my TEQ bag.

What made you "suddenly" decide to shut it down? Too much to work on anymore? New interests? Heading a different direction? Playing for the other team?

Your implicit, subtle implication of my Gheyness is probably correct.

;)

I am getting older and getting into older vehicles, vehicles that provide me with a simple satisfaction of wrenching and work.

That being said, the 80 series has been by far the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. Bar none.

It is epic in every manner. It is the penultimate Toyota wagon; it is the finest example of the pinnacle of Toyota engineering for its time.

My 80 did everything I ever asked it to do and everything I never asked it to do. I almost died in it, I almost procreated because of it.

It allowed me to be the "beno" I am today.

It allowed me to be authentic with the world.

It allowed me to meet CDan;

It allowed me to meet some of the best people across the U.S.;

It allowed me to traverse some of the most epic terrain in North America;

It made my bones.

And for all of that I am grateful to my 80 series.

@beno ...I was in no way indicating gheyness!! I meant the "other team" as perhaps a Jeep, GM, or Ford dealership.

I feel the same way about my Studebaker. But we just dug it out of the garage, got it running and I am teaching our son how to work on it (as well as the Cruiser, Van, and Heep ZJ.). I am old enough that I cannot do all if it myself anymore either (mostly eyesight) so I need to pass it along.

Best wishes with your next vehicle!!!

Onur (@beno) will you post a pic here in the 80 thread so everyone can see what prompted you to retire your 80. I already know (and will admit it's pretty freaking cool) but you can't let people think you are going to be driving a Heep!

I haven't worked on it today but in doing some research I came across this which just expanded my drawer building horizons...when I eventually make them :(

I have been a woodworker, as a hobby, for the past few years and I am looking at the possibility of a life long career in cabinitry/carpentry/timberframing. Thanks for sharing that! Once a person got set up properly, they could pump out grain matching drawers faster than anything. Just goes to show this site is good for more than just cruisers!

Did a little exploring. Even though it's not the weekend. View attachment 1076770View attachment 1076771

Also saw a 40 in someone's yard. Stopped by and it was in pretty rough shape. But maybe worth restoring being that he asked 700$ for it

Does it run? I'm looking for a 40 that runs. I don't care about the body. Just want it to run so I can mess with the body and drive it during the summer. If you don't buy it I would be interested.

For $700 does it really matter? I'll bet with a little WD40, a battery, starting fluid, gasoline it would start in about 4 hours. take it home, rebuild it piece by piece, and enjoy it!

It doesn't run, engine is seized but I think we might do it. Dad and I have been looking for a project and I think this might be the one

To me all those seem like reasons to NOT retire the all mighty 80 :)

Packing for a weekend of driving the 60 mile stretch of beach on Padre Island National Seashore. Hopefully I'll catch dinner and/or drink lots of beer.
