One of the local CSC members showed me his old Y-Pipe off his 80 and how very restrictive the 2 tubes leading into the single pipe transition become. The 2 pipes are squeezed down to 50% of thier diameter and are seperated until they meet with the single tube. We chop-sawed the old pipe to show this feature.
Following the old adage of "the more air in and the more air out" leads to better performance and gas mileage, I took his advise and looked into the Magnaflow 23120 pipe. This is 404 Stainless that also incorporates the first catalytic converter. As you can see the new pipe is full diameter throughout the Y for much better flow.
A few years ago I replaced the pinched down section of the exhaust pipe over the 3rd rear crossmember to help my supercharger breathe well but I didnt realize that the big restriction up front at the Ypipe. I dont expect huge differences, but will monitor my Ultraguage for mpgs and see how it performs with some driving.
The install was more time consuming than thought due to the old studs, nuts, and O2 sensor that didnt like being disturbed after so many years. The fitment is a direct bolt up as advertised and fit well. The kit comes with all the gaskets that are needed too.
The old pipe was not in the best of shape and the first cat spit out a fair amount of cat sand when removed due to age. I like that the new first cat is shaped to not hang down to catch any rocks.

A few questions; Is that cat CARB legal? How many Cruisers end up in your shop at once? Will you be letting the safety people see that picture?

My 80 was officially retired today. I pulled the plates, de-registered it, and de-insuranced it.
It has served me well for 14 years. Through some amazing adventures all over the United States and allowed me to meet so many great Land Cruiser owners who are now my best friends, colleagues, amigos, clients, and customers.
It is going to sit for awhile merely as a testament to all that I did to it and all that she did to my life. Those of you who know my 80 know what hell I took her through. She deserves rest now.
And, probably in the near future, will begin it's next life with her components in other vehicles.

I refuse to like this post. It makes me sad.
Although, I dabbled with a 70 for 6 months and thought it was neat. I came running back to my 80 and have never regretted it.
I have room to "park" you 80 if you feel the need to get rid of it.![]()
You mean sell it? Nah. Never. I will part it out, tear it to pieces, sawzall things off of it before I sell it.
It is the primary reason I am who I am in my life today.
