Crazie Eights took its 3rd day-trip this past Saturday. I got to ride with jdlsantos, and Kletzenklueffer for the first time. (Don't laugh all you Mudders west of the Rockies; three 80s in one place in Georgia is a big deal.)View attachment 1016618
I took my 80 to the car wash (not the drive thru, the hand wash). My 80 in one bay and a 100 in the next bay. I got excited. Until I said "Nice 100 series." And he had no idea what I was talking about. Sigh.
There are a few 80's in San Antonio, but they are reclusive and only seen on occasion. I love when I see one on the interstate and I hammer the old 3FE to catch up and share my enthusiasm of finding another 80, only to find that it's some schmo that doesn't appreciate the vehicle he is driving and looks at me like I'm crazy. I've actually offered to buy the vehicle off of 2 such individuals to no avail. I'll keep trying, so we can save them from the scrap yard. Long live the 80!!!

I do this all the time in the NYC area. very under-appreciated car in the big apple. I'd like to round them up and ship them all to Utah where they can thrive
In the Overland Park, KS area (Olathe, Leawood, Overland Park, Mission Hills) area, there are a large number of 80's. I see them when we drive around house-shopping or when heading to the local Trader Joe's. I NEVER see another 80 when I'm driving mine. Only when I'm driving my 95 Jeep GC or the Chrysler T&C.
But you're right...MOST of the ones I see are bone-stock and the owners have no idea what they have as far as capability. Just like the PO that I got mine from........
Yeah I rarely saw an 80 in Texas, but I bet here in Moab there are more 80's per capita then anywhere else. And it's almost the same most don't seem to acknowledge the cult of 80.

Everytime I see an 80 or 60 parked somewhere I leave a note offering to buy it. One of these days maybe I'll get a call.
While I don't think the owners have any idea what they have as far as off road capabilities, I do think they see the same thing we all see in 80s, reliability and durability.
I'm glad there are still a lot of people that have no idea what they truly have. To them I say "Please keep babying your 80. Maintain it and when it starts to leak oil and get 'high miles', panic, and sell it for a song to me."
