I spent the day taking apart my throttle body and intake plenum. I was trying to clear my CEL. Took a while to get that rear bolt out. Finally had to put all my extensions together and try from a different angle. I cleaned it up as good as I could with two cans of carb cleaner. I discovered the PO had plugged the EGR port with some sheet metal sticky thing. I scraped it off and reassembled. It did clear the CEL...for now.

Got one step closer to monstaliner:

Previous owner must of dropped off a ledge or boulder, slamming the swingout into the hatch.

Had to bore a hole in the hatch to pop out the dent.

Pry bar I used

Far from perfect, but not bad considering I didn't know what the hell I was doing.

Replaced the starter with a Toyota OEM from Cruiser Dan. The other had been rebuilt due to an intermittent noise. It was hard to tell what was going on, if it was the flywheel or what. Very intermittent and loud noise. I replaced it with the reman from Cdan and all is well so far. I did this a few weeks ago and didn't post yet as I didn't want to jinx myself.

I think I am good to go with the starter as something started making noise with my pulleys up front after I replaced it. Good sign cause if I actually fix something usually something else demands to be looked at...

Did a better job of installing my baffled ebay catch can. Mostly involved various false starts and then just re-tapping the inlet and outlet threads so i could install 3/8" barbs.

Did a mostly proper job of installing the seat relocation brackets i had fabbed. four more inches, what a difference. the way i did it the whole seat, rails included, is shifted 4' back. The rear outside foot is now bolted to the floor through it's relocation bracket. Used a chunk of 1/4" steel that already had the right sized hole in it as a fender washer, with thick rubber washers on either side of that, and then a regular fender washer, and a nylock nut. Should be water-tight and is Not Going Anywhere.

The inside rear foot is more of a trick. That one is above the fuel tank, so i put a 1/8" drill bit in my drill so that only about half an inch of bit was extended from the chuck. Did my pilot hole, then i felt for clearance with a bit of copper wire. It appears that there is about 50mm from the top of the carpet to the top of the gas tank. I might drill the hole (Carefully!) and see if there's a way i can fish a bolt, lock washer, and fender washer from under the truck and install a washer and a nylock nut on top. If that doesn't work, it's either time to drop the tank, or time to spec out and install a nutsert.

Then i took it on a 150 mile round trip to drop off my utility trailer at my sister's house.

I just finally washed all the dirt and grime from my cross country road trip. Kind of sad washing Moab and Rubicon dust off the truck....

I brought it home!

Purchased this 1996 with 154,000 miles, OME, Metal Tech front, and newer 285/85-15 M/Ts. Flew to Portland, OR, met one incredible Mud member, drove home 1100 miles in 17 hours!

getting ready to install my new snorkel. anyone around logan utah have a 3-1/4 to 3-1/2 in hole saw? i dont really want to buy one to use it just once.

Tracked my "whirring" noise back to my rear diff. Decided to pull the third member to see what was going on in there. No abnormal wear marks but there was some play in the pinion. Got it completely tore down and decided that I need new inner and outer pinion bearings and the pinion oil seal. Going to drop it off at a local shop to have it all re assembled. This way I know everything was done right, and if not, I know where to take it back to.

F**k this thing.

But it's done.
