Thanks to all for the well wishes and support, it means a lot in what has been a very tough period for us. We are living out of a hotel for the next week or so while the house gets cleaned, there is some smoke damage from the fire so all the insulation in the attic has to be pulled, everything sealed and re-insulated, the house needs cleaned top to bottom, air purifiers, etc. We hope to be back home for the weekend, but we'll see. The fire melted the power line as it was routed over the garage roof, so I had them upgrade the house service to 200amp while they were at it, and power was back late Friday night. They brought in a generator to keep the furnace running as it was around -18C for a high that day and pipes can freeze quickly with no heat.

In some good news, we found a replacement for the wife's car last night, a very clean '04 Lexus GX470 premium, 133,000kms, silver with beige interior. Hope to have that for the weekend as well! Hopefully it won't need much work as I won't have a garage till mid-summer by the looks of things. I'll be addressing a few shortcomings in my old garage during the rebuild as well, so I have that to look forward to.

Very sorry to hear about the loss. My family lost our home to a wild fire in November of 2008 and I know how devastating it can be. Hopefully its a trial that will make your family stronger in the end :) Best of luck and I'm glad nobody was hurt.

Boring stuff. Spent some time under the truck and drained/replaced the gear oil in the front/rear diffs and t-case. Two gallons (approx) of gear oil. Took some brake cleaner and cleaned off zerks in prep for lubing the drive shafts. Yawn. Not near as fun as some of the recent pics of snow wheeling.

Crawled around under the 80 and figured out the PO must have dropped the transfer case and decided to just cut the breather hoses and not reconnect them. So I got the honor, neh the privilege, to connect them back up. What a pain in the keester that was. Also drained and refilled the transfer case. Luckily i have a spare tcase to look at so I could figure out where the hoses connected, as I could not see them from working under the truck. On more baseline thing done.

- Drove it for the first time in 2 months.
- Checked the sunroof leak issue (what a pain)
- No rain so opened it up to dry and air out.
- Cleaned up more mold and dog hair
- Fixed frozen locks
- Fixed windshield wipers
- Made a list of to-dos - new radio and antenna, need CB, new roof rack, check spare tire and jack operation etc, detail to clean out all the mold and smell.

Love driving the beast but these first few months of ownership have been a hassle.

Let's see, what did I do to my 80 this weekend.....

Oh yeah, I BOUGHT IT! :D

I'm the proud owner of a 1997 FJ80 W/O lockers unfortunately, but it's only going on the beach to fish so it should be fine, no?

It's totally rust free because it was a California car up until 12k miles ago. The antique sage paint's CC is completely intact and restoreable - I've got a Porter Cable D/A polisher and all the required Menzerna/Meguiars polishes needed - and the leather seating has only one small crack where your butt brushes the edge when you get in.

I picked it up Friday at 4PM and then mother nature dumped a foot of snow on us! (Talk about perfect timing!) The truck walked all over it like a champ, even where the plows had piled it higher at entrances to side streets. This is my first 4WD truck and it was a blast driving it.

I've been lurking here for the past few weeks trying to decide whether or not to buy one, so this is partly your fault too. ;)

Great forum!

have fun with your new purchase

Took a little ride with my wife and son and 4 other vehicles up near Tray Mt. in N. Georgia. (Photos coming from the "official" ride photographer soon)

I like how close those topo lines are - looks like interesting scenery :bounce:

looks great. Let me know if you ever decide to get rid of your flares!:D

Did nothing to the 80 other than driving to Patoka Lake State Park (IN) for some true R&R. It was fantastic.

Went back to Texas Off Road Ranch for some camping and light wheeling.

Went out to Oklahoma.

Dang, five 80s in one photo. I've only seen three (and an LX-450) since I bought mine in November. And, I saw them all at different times in three different counties. I feel so alone! :crybaby:

Did the killer dowel pin fix. What the heck is that you ask? The cummins equivalent to the pesky heater hose. It'll kill your engine if not pm'ed.

Also slapped on a harmonic balancer while in there. Made a difference.

I did nothing to or with the rig.... I feel so ashamed :frown:
