So far, these are a huge improvement over the BFG's.

Thanks to all for the well wishes and support, it means a lot in what has been a very tough period for us. We are living out of a hotel for the next week or so while the house gets cleaned, there is some smoke damage from the fire so all the insulation in the attic has to be pulled, everything sealed and re-insulated, the house needs cleaned top to bottom, air purifiers, etc. We hope to be back home for the weekend, but we'll see. The fire melted the power line as it was routed over the garage roof, so I had them upgrade the house service to 200amp while they were at it, and power was back late Friday night. They brought in a generator to keep the furnace running as it was around -18C for a high that day and pipes can freeze quickly with no heat.
In some good news, we found a replacement for the wife's car last night, a very clean '04 Lexus GX470 premium, 133,000kms, silver with beige interior. Hope to have that for the weekend as well! Hopefully it won't need much work as I won't have a garage till mid-summer by the looks of things. I'll be addressing a few shortcomings in my old garage during the rebuild as well, so I have that to look forward to.
Let's see, what did I do to my 80 this weekend.....
Oh yeah, I BOUGHT IT!
I'm the proud owner of a 1997 FJ80 W/O lockers unfortunately, but it's only going on the beach to fish so it should be fine, no?
It's totally rust free because it was a California car up until 12k miles ago. The antique sage paint's CC is completely intact and restoreable - I've got a Porter Cable D/A polisher and all the required Menzerna/Meguiars polishes needed - and the leather seating has only one small crack where your butt brushes the edge when you get in.
I picked it up Friday at 4PM and then mother nature dumped a foot of snow on us! (Talk about perfect timing!) The truck walked all over it like a champ, even where the plows had piled it higher at entrances to side streets. This is my first 4WD truck and it was a blast driving it.
I've been lurking here for the past few weeks trying to decide whether or not to buy one, so this is partly your fault too.
Great forum!
