I have the exact same problem. CEL when driving around town, goes off on the freeway. Did the paperclip trick to get the code and its the EGR but it sounds like pinpointing the problem can take a while. Let me know if you find anything.

EGR regulator is an easy fix for CEL if it fails and easy to test. I got lucky and this was what cleared mine. Green top or blue top?

Recoated rear wheel wells with ruberized paint.

Works! Cheapest way to reduce road noise.

@ kevsta....nice work...... fixed it with excercise....it wasnt broke...it forgot it had lockers.....although these things are incredible....its always good to keep a few extra prayers in the toolbag..lol

Drove the White Rim trail near Moab. First real trim in my new-to-me 97 LX. Bone stock with only 106k on it - probably he first time she ever saw dirt. Performed flawlessly both on the trail and for the 600 miles of interstate travel. I've mainly owned jeeps and land rovers previously but I now think the 80 series is the perfect all around rig for me.

This trail is amazing. Definitely one for the bucket list. Photos don't do it justice.

Plugs, #1 o2 sensor, hood and lift gate supports, aft knock sensor reconnected, mounted one polk door speaker and then bought a can of satin black spray paint because the silver grille is just, ugh. I'll probably use the same satin black to re-spray the rear door grilles which will remain stock.

Looked at it. Thought about installing some USB outlets. Decided it was too cold. Returned to the indoors.

Put on a new pair of drive flanges, after launching a cone washer across the garage which i found 30min later.... wondered why my truck is blowing blue (injectors?) thought about installing EGT probe but didn't want to pull turbo/manifold so said screw it... Maybe start tomorrow lol

Installed TJM 4" kit.....

Gotta go look but I know it is the "updated" one, I think blue.

Retrofive and Badreligion:
I've got the green top EGR regulator. I seem to recall seeing some threads on this topic somewhere buried in the forum but now I can't find it  (I know, I know, figure out the Search feature). I'm assuming a few things - that it's the EGR port that's clogged - as I had both O2 sensors and the EGR regulator replaced when I bought the vehicle. Managed to pass smog as the freeway drive up to the DMV cleared the CEL so I found a smog shop and got it immediately checked. I take it I should have the EGR swapped out for a more current version?

I realize this is off topic so if the moderators would prefer, I'll take this offline or start a new thread. Thanks for humoring the new guy.
