What did you do with your 80 this weekend: maintenance, fix, wheel, nothing, new mod??

Me:
Checked air in tires
Change oil&filter 180,000
Fill gas tank
Waiting on box of parts from Beno
I changed the front wheel bearings and replaced the Alternator.
Having issues on the throttling though. I m.guessing it is a vacuum issue. Not sure though. As soon as I rev the engine it labors also rich on fuel. I see the VSV was not connected and not working so looking for a replacement then will try again to see if it improves.

I replaced my 4AWG wire with 2AWG wire. The wires come off the house battery, through a breaker, then through the cab to power accessories at the rear. I set my air compressor on the tailgate to air up my tires and needed wiring to handle 90A of current. My previous Viair compressor pulled significantly less current but required 4 to 5 times the amount of time to air up.

I see the passed through the firewall but is that an existing hole or did you have to drill a new one?

Pictures of new armor as requested. Delta front and mid plate. All slathered up in fresh fluid film for the Tennesse mud/dust. An all encompassing armor solution. Embrace the toughness, admire the craftsmanship, FEEL the weight of indestructible power and never mind the PITA install without a vehicle lift in close confined quarters. Rocks and obstacles will tremble……

I drilled new holes and used stainless wire glands. This makes for a waterproof pass-through.

Here's a better view with the old 4 AWG wire.

I replaced some interior paneling grommets, I put a 7mm rubber O ring (6mm would work too) in each grommet groove. Driving down the road…..an eerie silence filled the cabin…..The Silence of the Rattles. 😎

I added felt tape to the sheet metal behind the panel. It did nothing to stop the rattles
I might give this a shot.

Not the OP, Toyota does provide ways to pass through the firewall. I ran a 6 AWG wire back to the rear where I have a house battery and a DC-DC charger. Because of that, I didn't need to use heavier wire, like 2 AWG, since I only needed to support 50 amps of current. 6 AWG fits easily under the carpet trim as well.

4 AWG was a struggle to fit under the carpet trim. 2 AWG was much worse. I had to replace the toyota harness wire loom with wire loom that was smaller and more flexible to give me millimeters of more space. I have other connections already going into that grommet for 2nd battery monitoring and my fridge control.

This reminds me, I need to document all of my electrical connections in the truck.
  • Backup camera
  • Relay for fridge
  • Switch for fridge
  • Relay for remote relay
  • Remote relay
  • Backup camera
  • 2 AWG main power to rear
  • Cig lighter power
  • Anderson PP power
  • USB and battery monitor power
  • SB50 plug
