Drained coolant and replaced heater control valve, lots of heater hoses, including the two that attach to the oil cooler (one was in bad shape which is what precipitated the project). Also did the thermostat and 3 of the sensors attached to the housing. Broke air cleaner hose No.1 trying to remove the hose that connects to the intake manifold behind the IAC valve. The rubber just separated where the metal nipple goes in. Glued it back together until I can get the new part and it seems to run ok. Fix one thing, break another seems to be a general rule for these trucks.

The old coolant actually looked great. The PO had the radiator and upper / lower hoses and water pump replaced in 2019. Everything looked pretty clean. The o-ring gasket for the t-stat had seen better days but everything else was in good shape.

That's... um... a handful.

In preparation of drving up to Denevr in a couple of days to drop off my old girl with Cruiser & Company for a turbo install, decide to clean up the engine some and treated it to a tune with new plugs, wires, and rotor.

Also painted the yellowing sunroof control panel surround to match my new interior.

Went to All Toyota Fest in Long Beach and won an Award!

I got lucky that it was in stock about 3-1/2 hours away from me in Denver. The short block was ordered by someone else, and when it came in, they decided they didn't want it. I inquired a couple days after that, and jumped on it when they said yeah, you can have it. The two cams (left and right or 1 and 2) were also in stock. The head was in stock in Kansas City, and they had it there with the short block and cams in just a couple days.

If anyone else is looking for a new short block, I was told there's one at a dealership in Bakersfield California.

Otherwise, it can take up to 9-months of waiting to get one once ordered.
Sweet! Came up!
