I got the driver side window and all associated gears in and aligned - broke the window in Feb of 2020.

Then I set about running the driving cycle to get the CAT and EGR cleared for a smog check. I drive for abour two hours and still didn't clear those boxes. But, I think the Landcruiser is making her opinion known about whether to keep flares or not. Another damaged one came off. The drivers side is getting pretty bare. Now I'm researching endless threads about flares v flareless.

It was open for about a week, they closed it again on Monday for bridge work on the Telluride side, it'll reopen Sunday. That said, you can run it to the pass from the Ouray side as an out and back, makes for a long day with all of the traffic though. San Miguel County really dropped the ball with the passes this season, pretty pathetic how it has been handled.

That said, you can run it to the pass from the Ouray side as an out and back, makes for a long day with all of the traffic though. I’ve been struggling with the flare VS no flare decision for a while now. I love the look of them, but man are they east to tear off.

I pulled mine and hates the holes. I had no desire to deal with the work to fix it so back on they went.

Yeah that’s one of the bigger hang ups. I’ve also got some flares with broken tabs/slots. Time to learn how to plastic weld I guess.

If it's a restoration show rig than keep them. If your going to use it offroad and don't care about keeping it original oem than delete them.

Taking the rig to a body shop and getting the fenders fixed will be approximately the same cost as having a body shop weld the holes and fix the paint. But you will have an easier time finding a body shop to remove them than fix them.

Lile myself if you don't care about hurting the resale value with truck bed liner because your keeping the rig as long as possible as an offroad vehicle and you like to save money, than tape or weld and bed liner is a great choice.

After about 4 years and about 60k miles since install the tuned fan clutch in my 80 seemed to be losing a bit of it's drive so I just refreshed it. On a hot day's drive through the WNC mountains the 80 was hitting the 205-210 F coolant temps on longer hill climbs, pulling a camper with bikes on the roof and gear inside, AC on, etc. Cooling was still acceptable but I'd prefer to have a little more margin. Cooling system is up to snuff, etc.

4 years ago I purchased a new Aisin blue hub and set it up with 15k CST oil and with the small port half open at 110 F. I experimented with a few opening temps to learn more about how they impacted engine temps and found a 110 degree opening temp was at least good.

The new tune is running 20k CST oil and has the small port open halfway at around 95 degrees which is the more commonly used temp from what I've read (thanks @landtank ). I shouldn't move two variables at once but I've wondered if dropping the small port opening temp will add a little more large port flow at the higher temps where it needs a little more oomph. I also noticed what may be burnt oil in the fan clutch (can see signs of it in the pics below) and while I don't know if that's what the black stuff is or why it may be there I wanted to increase fluid flow and be sure I got as much oil as seemed reasonable into the hub to spread the work out.

Below are photos of the temp setup process. The 59ml or 2oz bottle of fluid is more than is needed for a blue hub. I filled the side with the oval holes until the 4 oval holes were holding fluid and not emptying and there was 20% or so of the oil left over (how much you drain could impact this and I only drained for a few hours @ 230F). Heating the oil, fan clutch and then rotating the hub input all helps work the oil in while filling. Cooling the oring makes it easier to get it back into it's groove.

A week late but I put about 2k miles on it driving from Virginia to the northern Adirondacks and back. It started at the Gotham city cruisers wheeling event: Coal Miners Cruisers Classic, at anthrocite adventure off road park. Had a great time. Didn't break much, got a a little dirty but nothing that couldn't be washed off. After the event I went to see some friends in update NY and drove the lc to less than. 90 miles from the CAN border. She performed flawlessly the entire way. Even on 37s with stock gears on the highway. Tourists or part timers from Texas can complain about Colorado services when they move here full time. We'll even come rescue you for free when you get in over your head....pretty much a daily occurrence. When "ya'll" move here we have plenty of DOT jobs here doing exciting things like plowing and vehicle maintenance. Sorry it won't pay well enough for you to afford a million dollar ranch, but you'll do fine with 3 other roommates.

I'm not mad I'm just not a tourist.
