Then out to Alvord Desert for some shenanigans on the playa
Finally an overnight at Scout Lake
Snapshot of the load out we used. This is a modified KISS system with the left side cut out, I'm going to build a slider panel that can either go in the top rail for a sleeping platform or bottom rail for a cooler slider. The mattress is a modular kids' mattress set from IKEA with removable, washable covers and good supportive foam. Left side has the tent, camping table, and chairs; right side has the bins for kitchen and gear as well as the popup canopy. Not pictured is the stuff in the drawer, recovery and repair stuff in the tailgate storage, or the Trasharoo hanging off the spare tire.
All in the 80 was bomber the whole trip, the extra insulation helped a good bit with sound but not with the 100º heat, though we only lost AC cooling when we sat in some traffic. 14 mpg the whole time and didn't need the spare gas we brought for the long high desert stretches between gas stations. I was happy to have cruise control, AC, and definitely the drawer system… but I could really have used a turbo from
@NLXTACY for the wide open roads at altitude.
