Really exciting week for me. I investigated a "pinging" noise at low speed, sounded like something bouncing off my driveshaft. U-joints were quite dry and the noise was abated with a thorough greasing. After reading about the driveshaft failure, I wonder if replacing all the u-joints would be a good idea....
I'm impressed by other peoples ability to work with fibers and resins for things like this. I play with wood and steel to build things, well and electricity (electrician and designer) but building one off design like this is interesting, and so fluid compared to other materials. I bet you got that system cranked up alot, looks good.
So for around $550 you did the 2 front seats?? That's a good price. Did you add any padding?. Looks good.
Came up some nice colors on a rare sunny day. This autumn here really sucks this year...so cold and rainy.

Padding was good but any decent upholstery guy can fix bad padding. I felt like $300 for the kit and $250 for the install was worth not spending 2 days doing it myself. I will probably move on to the middle row next.
No better time to clean the carpet like when you have the seats pulled for reupholstering.
What products are you using to clean it? Curious how it turns out. The carpet on my recently acquired ‘95 doesn’t look like it’s ever been done.
I just used an automotive carpet cleaner, sprayed it on fairly heavy then used a stiff bristle brush to scrub it then rub aggressivly with clean white towels. It wasn’t in bad shape to start, just needed a freshen up and seemed to work well.

I have installed a half dozen or so Redarc BCDC aux battery kits into 80s at my work, Rhino Adventure Gear. But this week was the first time shipping a kit out for a customer to install on their own. @joee has his kit coming with every single piece to install a second, aux battery in his 80. It will be a good test to see if I haven’t left anything out. And also if my instructions make sense haha. If all goes well, I’ll likely do a group buy on here for others to buy.

Ya know ... There's a seal on the Other side of that area. You really should clean off all that sand and grit BEFORE opening up the housing.
I’d be interested. What’s the estimated cost of the kit? Any installed pics? How do you monitor system health in the cab?
I made my own "kit" but installed a simple dual volt meter that fit into the switch location. I also have a voltmeter on my fridge to watch it while camping. While in the cab, there's not much to really monitor IMO.
You mean the seal on the back of the rotor?

No, the one on the back of the knuckle, where the big ball is that all encompasses that.
You should consider the upper and lower trunnions while you're there too.
Did my autumn fluid changes. Engine, diffs, transfer and transmission. Topped off birfs and prop shafts.
Someone sat on my passenger seat with something in their pocket and tore the "leather". These are L-seat replacements..about 2 years old. Quite disappointed with the quality and upon inspection I don't think it actually leather..
Fitted some neoprene seat covers I had lying around to hide the damage.
