Got my first rock chip on the way to a camp site. Smack dab in the middle of driver's view, after owning the rig for more than 3 years. So much for my virgin, untouched, Japanese, brown tinted glass.

What front bumper you running? I used to get lots of chips and cracks.. it was because of my "rock crawling style high clearance bumper".
Part of the bumpers job is to deflect rocks coming from YOUR front tires. You can actually break your own windshield with rocks your tires throw forward that bounce into your rig! I added some rubber to the front of my bumper to cover the tires, the rubber will deflect on big rocks I'm crawling over but will catch small ones coming from my tires. YMMV
