Pulled my daily 2012 Scion tC from Michigan to North Carolina with my relatively new-to-me 80. After delaying my leaving by about 8 hours because my heater control valve failed and the trailer wiring control box (might be LX450 specific?) was toast.

FINALLY got time and good weather to finish my valence and bumper repair. That sad face is now gone. Before and After below.

Now I can work on those faded fender flares.

Finally got my sliders back on my truck and went for a short trip to scout a new area for deer hunting. I am so glad the sliders don't rattle on the pinch welds anymore  Word of advice for anyone building their own sliders, you need at least 3/8" of a gap between the slider and the pinch weld or they will hit each other when you are driving on bad washboard or bumpy roads.

I was hiking in some pretty remote untravled country and almost climbed right onto these petroglyphs as I was working my way down an old lava flow. They looked ancient and very faded.

Helped a guy out with his knuckle issue. Luckily I had some parts left over from doing mine last weekend.

Only last thing, I used snap ring 90520-31009 instead of 90520-31007. I’m not sure of the difference but thats what I had and his was rusted and busted. So that’s what I used.

Next up is give my cruisers a shower.

Looks great! I've been meaning to do the same with mine. I have the touch up paint but I haven't felt like taking it apart. doesn't help that the rest of the paint is F'd lol...

Not fun but also not terribly difficult to do. The valence has 11 or so bolts. The bumper is a breeze to remove. New paint on the Valence will not stand out on a rough rig. Mine blended in nicely. Makes everything look cleaner.

This weekend I (with the help of some very good friends) built a rear swing out tire carrier. I have had my 80 for a few weeks now and the owner before me had a very bad design for the rear tire carrier. His design made it to where you could not open the back of the vehicle, so I knew building a rear tire carrier would have to be the first mod I did. I went with a double swing out instead of the single and am glad I made that decision. The plan is to add a two can holder and a spot for my high lift on the right side. I am debating on if I should put a ladder on the back and have my can holder attached to the ladder and make it so the can holder will swing out so you can use the ladder. If any of you have pictures of a similar set up please share them so I can get some ideas. Also, if anyone has suggestions for primer and paint that has held up for a long time for them please share that has well.

I am planing on posting a thread on the building process. I couldn't find many threads on here on building a swing out on a stock bumper (I'm sure there are but I just missed them). For me this was a low cost option to get rid of the bad design from the previous owner. Obviously buying a new back bumper and building the tire carrier off of that is a better option, but I don't have $1,000-$1,400 to throw into a new back bumper and swing out package right now. All together this cost me about $300. That's including both spindles, steel and accessories.

Huge Thank you to @KrOswalt for all the help with welding and design.

Thanks!
Steven

You couldn’t take pictures of the pretty welds? Damn :flipoff2:

I’d love to know how you end up tackling the fender flares. I’ve had a tough time getting the clear coat and paint off without sanding into the plastic. And no luck finding a safe paint remover yet. Thanks!
