Gave the 80 the weekend off as it will be getting a workout in the next coming months and it was the last weekend for bike week. Didnt see too many Harleys off the road:hillbilly:

Went to front runner outfitters for a local get together. Got a couple little things!

Drove the old girl quite a bit this weekend.

Thats parked in Monrovia at my local barber shop.
The next day I went to San Diego to met a mud member and get some prinsu side rails for my 80 to do some experimenting/reconfiguring of my rack setup. Put about 350 highway miles on it this weekend, which is what normally would take 6 months to do if I just commute with it. She did 13.8 mpg on the way to and from San Diego, GPS real world miles not Odometer miles.

I went ahead and got a Jetboil after talking to @LandCruiserPhil about it when I met him last week. Brole it out this morning while loading my 18 wheeler for a test brew of coffee. Happy with it so far.

Sheesh Randy, where were you guys? Charlies Creek?

No, it was an unmarked (I realized it after the fact) trail off of a FSR just southeast of the town of Blue Ridge. It wasn't as steep as "the hill" we climbed off of Charlie's Creek. I'm not even sure that the steepest section was any steeper than that trail we rode south of Warwoman Rd. The issue was the slickness.

I'm sorry I wasn't there. If you'd've called I would have been there in 8 hours....

If I had called you before we started trying to get out on our own, you would have gotten there just about the time we finally got out.

You gotta get a winch bro!

Here's what I did get:

Do you even work out?

Is that a typo? You've seen my body; you already know the answer to that question. :p

If you talk to the fan clutch expert the Eaton is to go to clutch. With that said I run a modded Eaton and rarely see 200° even pulling 7% grade in the our 115° summers.

If you choose to go blue send me your Eaton

Yes eaton can work, however I can never get the amount of fluid right nor figure out how to tune when the clutch engages. For me it was either not working or working all the time. Blue hub fan clutch can be easily tuned to turn on/open and turn off correctly.....or buy the landtank modded on from @NLXTACY aka Witsend.

The front Volvo Portal axle is installed! I may pull it out again and put some more metal bracing on top to give FOO a lower center of gravity.

Now all I have to do is:

Finish driveshaft adapters
install all brake lines, hard and soft, and weld on tombstones
weld on limit straps ends
bracing on front axle
Turn the four Volvo drive flanges to swap to disc brakes
find, buy and install fluid powered e brake - and plumb it.
cut out fenders/quarters/sliders/inners to fit the 39.5" tires with portal scrub action.
figure out backspacing and what rims will fit best.
bump stops??
teardown and rebuild front and rear axles, new seals and bearings.
steering arm connection to stock
add hydro assist
paint everything purdy like -

That was pretty depressing to type all of that.....

Performed the air bag light reset. Had my airbag light come on after trying to charge my failed battery in the LC.

Lift shipped.

Slee stuff shipping in morning.

Got a tag.

Had to go ahead and put on the meaty meats.

Need to sell Tundra wheels and get a front end service kit. TOP PRIORITY is looking cool first though!

This is the nicest/cleanest 80 I've had. Not that the others were that nice, but this one is just much tighter all aroud and the new engine pulls like a champion.

You are too kind. I am definately not the first to throw Portals under a LC; however, they are very rare here in the states.

I am trying to keep my thead FOO updated... linky in my signature.

Someone on another forum made this comment in response to my multiple attempts to find a less-expensive alternative to the more expensive item (that I ended up buying anyway): "Cry once."

Swapped in the new vacuum hoses I pulled from the parts yard LX450 where the owner had clearly just done all the hoses.

Next up, heater valve and hoses, but decided not to use the stuff off the parts truck because the valve turned out to be aftermarket and the hoses weren’t OEM or particularly well done.

Did the drivers side window run, next weekend for the others, it was pretty easy. However, then noticed some crud inside the master window switch. I read everything on how to clean the contacts and especially how to be super careful about those little springs inside, as they can get lost. I was super careful.....until it fell over, and dumped the springs. took 3 hours to recover all but 1, and then took apart the power button on an old HP PC, and found a spring that worked, not perfect, but worked. Next time, I'm bagging the switches when out.
