I went wheeling.

Then I went through a SLK 350 coupe with a distracted woman driver who turned in front of me suddenly at an intersection with nobody else on the road.

Unfortunately, I had just enough time to try to avoid her, but since she never looked and kept coming I hit her at about a 45 degree angle, went off the road and through a pedestrian crossing signal pole, and into a security fence that just barely held over a 6 foot concrete wall into a parking lot.

The radiator support assembly of the body is bent due to the angled impact, which busted the radiator and prevented me from just driving home (we tow strapped it to keep it out of insurance hands), and it is now twisted over the frame.

Or the frame is bent, but I don’t think so as I have a ton of reinforcement at the frame ears: two 3/16” plates and 2” tube between the frame ears plus a 3/4” blocked welded to the outside of each frame rail. The hit there just cost some paint.

Popping the curb at speed bent the driver’s side radius arm and I don’t know yet if the axle housing is bent, but given the arm gave I am hopeful. My stinger did its job taking the pedestrian pole down and under, but the tube part of the bumper is a total loss as it tore bending back.

I’m setting up a new arm now and will then have a better sense of other damage. Body parts replacement begins soon. I had a Koyo rad ready to go in so it’s doing service as I could mount it well enough to work for further evaluation.

Unfortunately, I had just enough time to try to avoid her, but since she never looked and kept coming I hit her at about a 45 degree angle, went off the road and through a pedestrian crossing single pole, and into a security fence that just barely held over a 6 foot concrete wall into a parking lot.

As long as you are ok, its all good!

Once you get the new inner fender put on and a good core support everything else just falls into place. The damage on mine was in the same corner but at slower speed. No frame damage. Easy peasy!

I've got a spare radius arm if you need it. Located in Westminster/Arvada

Why worry about keeping it out of insurance hands if it was her fault?

That Mercedes looks to be in really nice shape considering it tangled with a LC.

Glad you are OK. Sorry for your loss and extra work that's now required because of someone else.

Good Luck!

Did you even attempt to step on the brake pedal?

I was on the brakes instantly and swerved right so the hit spun her out of the way as it wasn’t direct and right in front of her passenger side door - she hardly slowed me down. If I had just hit her straight on I would have avoided all the collateral damage.

Her car held up well - I’m sure it’s totaled, but for it’s size it sure didn’t just disintegrate in the impact area.

The distance you drove after the impact is pretty long considering you were on the brakes.
Could it be brake failure on your truck?
I would look into that possibility before driving it again. Check everything possible related to the brakes.

Does insurance cover new underwear?

I will for sure - I used the brakes for the 15 mile tow home without any power assist, but the after the reactive punch to the floor and impact they weren’t very effective so it’s on the list...

To another question about why keeping it out of insurance hands - it takes little to total a 1995 vehicle and possession gives me more options since it is worth a lot more to me than it’s book value.

Hit a bit of a milestone yesterday. Noticed this after driving to my loval BMV to begin the registration process (been living here for 11 months, so figured it was about time I registered her).

Hi @Nay if ya need help with parts there is cruiser shop here in junction that has everything ya need and I have set radius arms that just need new bushing, he is pretty cheap with his parts compared to classic and the Denver yards

Appreciate it . @LC4LIFE came over (thank you!!!) and with his collision repair experience we determined the impact side of the frame is pushed back 3/4” or so at the front half of the frame.

The offset hit was essentially entirely on the driver’s side frame ear and a lot of the other bending followed and can conceptually follow back as the frame is pulled forward. I’m going to try to keep all the other body stuff intact and work out the bends, and will probably just trim up more under the valence since I need to redo my outer bumper wing design anyway.

At some point, as long as the frame alignment is good, it’s just another story with some body scars. We’ll see.

Did the rear heater bypass and hopefully final flush of the cooling system. Had a scare yesterday....my cooling system almost froze on me. Slush.... still had flush topped off and it got alot colder than i thought it was going to get... popped lower hose..stuck a oil pan heater on in her...wrapped the engine bay up with tarps and greenhouse plastic and stabbed and small heater in there. Empty this morning.... filled it up again after the bypass and we are good. Ran it for a hour above idle to move the flush around. Drained it...and will fill it up for final in the morning....and start all over again on my fathers cruiser.

Good eye on the other LC.

It is an early subaru scoop.
It Is but its an air-to-air & it works great! It is from another mudder in CO. @atoyo1031.
He made a small run of bolt on ICs about 5 years ago.

It really helps with a nice smooth power range. How much it cools the super charged air... I havent a clue as I didn't add pre & post IC temp probes.
It did make a huge difference especially when climbing long grades and towing trailers versus not having it.
Cool. That may be where mine came from too, don't know as it was on my 80 when I bought it. I don't have the framework that seals the scoop to the intercooler and I think it would help some, but I did put in guages before and after the cooler. Pulls about 12° out cruising and 20° out under boost. Does not have any heat soak issues on top of the engine either.

Replaced weak factory rear sway bar links with some Landtank links from witsend, Installed a new Inverter sized up the layout for on board air with a dual ARB Installed a tom woods rear driveshaft he was kind enought o re make for a toyota And the national Luna dual battery set up had to make up a braket for the solenoid as it was much larger than the IBS relay.
