I'd be very careful driving around with the centre differential locked on sealed roads, particularly at highway speeds. The centre diff lock is designed for low-traction conditions, not normal driving on dry bitumen.
With the centre diff locked...
Special one for me ladies and gents. We Got married!
And at my (now) wife's suggestion, we decorated my 80 for the wedding car!
It was a truly one of the best days of my life, the day was filled with all the different elements that make up...
Not to step on Adam's toes in his own thread, but with regard to lift height. You mentioned not breaking the bank. After 2-2.5" in height you will need to address things like pinion angle, brake line length, swaybar spacers, caster plates, panhard.
First real trip since the rebuild and 5 speed! Ran great, the motor feels healthy and pulls really well. Installed an AFR gauge as well prior to the trip and ran exactly how it should under boost. Have some kinks to work out, (primarily gear oil...
I learned how to weld while building my 4x4Lab kit in 2017. While I can appreciate a DIY solution (my roof rack is homemade) I'm glad I used a kit. The pieces fit together perfectly and it is well engineered.

It absolutely can be done. I built my rear bumper but it’s a tube bumper. And no swing outs.
I’m about to help my good friend build a rear bumper for his 100 series with swing outs.

You will spend close to the same amount for a kit as to buy the metal and doing it yourself.
Companies offering a kit are buy wholesale and in bulk.

If you really want a nice final product, DIY is not worth it, at least from a totally from scratch perspective. I would buy something that is already cut out where you can buy all the pieces ready to weld. IMHO, you will save yourself five...
Might as well update this thread.
Since the last update, the death wobble has officially been eliminated. It ended up being the tires. We tested the theory by swapping on a set of 33s from another 80, and the truck drove rock solid.
I ended up...
Finally got it out of my parents garage and back to Aspen! The cruisers motor has been back together for a couple months, but I was experiencing a death wobble which ended up being tires. Got 38/11.5r17 Nittos and it is rock solid now.
It was...
Might as well update this thread. The cruiser runs! What a process it has been, and I owe a ton of credit to @ExpoMax to get this thing back on the road. He spent weeks this summer working on getting the new engine together and all the needed 5...
