I spend more time wheeling on BLM then going to parks. Their roads are far less maintained.

My buddy took a deflared 80 through the squeeze, and it almost got stuck between the rocks. Damage to both sides of the vehicle down both sides. I unfortunately do not have the after photos as I felt too bad. That whole trail down to Fish Creek is actually pretty fun. I had a 4Runner at the time and it barely fit. This was in 2009 I believe and with gas prices so high the 80's were like a dime a dozen. ha

Installed my new ARB bumper on the white 80 with my son. Picked the ARB up last week from Steve at Southeast Overland. Good group of guys at SE Overland.

Just like the last ARB install, it took plenty of persuasion and a little grinding but we got it done.

People run shell Rotella 5-40 synthetic (heavy truck oil) in everything including motorcycles. It can usually be had around $20 per gallon in Walmart. It's the only weight it comes in so that's the main reason lol.

That was 2014. The black 80 above was my '96 that I built and sold to @flyingmonkey.

I actually did some sh1t this weekend. To start with i deleted the PAIR system. Then I swapped out the heater bypass hose to a '95 variant - thanks for the tip @inkpot. This allowed me to start my next project which is some on board air. Step one completed. Thanks @NLXTACY. Oh I also swapped out the plug wires, rotor arm and dizzy cap...i have earned a beer or 20...:flipoff2:

So the 95 heater bypass is different? Makes sense since there isn't a PAIR system in the 95-97. Didn't even think about this when I did my PAIR and EGR Delete. I need this.

I'm with @bloc on this one. Unless you can see obvious signs of wear like metal shavings, scratches to bearing surfaces, bad cylinder walls, etc, you just don't know. It looks to me like they may have ran some different types of oil, or gone past on the changes. There was obviously some leaking happening around the valve cover which caked the side of the motor in burnt oil. You will be amazed how that thing looks after you send it through a parts washer. If it were mine I would get that head off and start looking at the cylinder walls. Then pull the pans and get a look at the bearings. If nothing stands out as obvious on visual inspection then its time to get everything mic'd. Or, if it cleans up nice and you don't see evidence of wear on the cylinder walls and bearing surfaces you might just throw a set of rings in it and call the bottom end done !

Yeah, I think this seems reasonable.

The valve cover gasket appeared to be original. Hard as a rock. Plugs were circa 1997, which is odd that they were replaced at 4 years old but then never touched again. Must've been a change in ownership.

I'll pick away at this thing and see where I end up...
 
I ignored the P0401 and the expired registration tags and went on a club run with the Wasatch Cruisers! We found Butch Cassidy's camp, a uranium mine, the lamp post, petrified wood, a lot of amazing views, and some new friends. AND a leak in my radiator. AND I blew up a new cb.
