Also snuck this mod in this weekend. Got home from our club Christmas party/trail workday to a package on the porch :bounce:

Was able to mount up the Arb awning just before dark.

Topping off fluid for a quick day trip this weekend and realized my brake fluid in the reservoir is really dirty. Guess I'll be bleeding my brakes this weekend also.View attachment 1174624
I think you will notice a better feeling pedal.

Prepping for a couple winter trips coming up. Lockers and chains X4 should be a good combo for the snow we may encounter.
I've never used chains on a personal vehicle. Are they really necessary?

Yes. I lived in Texas. This the hatred for Texas. I'm not just a "Yankee" that hates Texas because it's fashionable. I have countless reasons.

I owned property in Texas until two years ago and just kept renewing my plates because a) I'm lazy and could do it by mail and b) it was cheap. However, the state of Texas has caught on and won't renew anymore so I need to register it here in Iowa. Someday.

F&$# Texas!

It's not that we caught on, it's that we no longer accept you! :flipoff2:

In the "right" (or wrong, depending on how you look at it) conditions they are absolutely necessary. Unless you are running agricultural tires or have a tracked vehicle, or the giant tires used on Arctic trucks most of the tires we all run are going to run out of traction in deep snow. Chains can make the difference in getting stuck vs getting home. They still have their limits and you can still get stuck with chains on but there's no denying their benefits.

Good to know! Deepest snow I've ever actually driven in was maaaaaaybe 4" deep.

Instead of cutting a tree we've been going up to the mountains, decorate a tree and take pics for our holiday card. Been a traditions for a few years now. Good times and had the opportunity to exercise the lockers.

Can hardly get my boys to stand still for a second!

My little 5 month old polar bear! Her first time in the snow.

Cheers,
Salue

You can cut trees down in a National Forest????
@LFD2037 Yes, with a permit which is $5. Trees have to be 200' from roads, water, & trails. The diameter must be no greater than 6" and the overall height can be no greater than 12'.

And they are required by law for some passes here in Oregon during winter months when snowfall is heavy. "Conditional Road Closure" is the term. I will be using them later today :-)

Went back to try to install my rocky road outfitters sliders. Took a good bit of grinding and drilling but the drivers side is up. The pinch Sean doesn't line up with the pipe that is supposed to attach to it. Br going to worry about that anyway. Passenger side is also on but the rear bracket was welded to high. The sliders make contact with the rocker panel. The front side hangs down where it's supposed to. I guess there will be some more cutting and some re-welding to do soon. But for now it will sit where it is.

FYI You can buy chains from Les Schwab and return them in spring if they are unused.

Got the 80 all cleaned up yesterday, had an inch of dust on it from the fabricator's shop. Pretty sure I'm going to need to re-gear now. It wasn't too bad before with just 35" tires but the extra weight of the sliders, roof rack, and rear bumper with the spare mounted has really taken some power. I'm thinking 4.88 should be the ticket

Well, she's hit 300,000
