The first three went out at the same time the mechanic put a new weird looking radiator cap on it. They all lasted about a week. We put a new OEM cap on the fourth and it lasted a few months. I dunno what now until I take it apart.

Unfortunately I'm thinking this is more than a radiator cap problem.

Here is a quick teaser...
Recently installed new leather with heated seat elements.
The heated elements are wired into the power seat plug under the bottom cushion. Then I extended the wires for the switches and plugged them into the factory loom.
Works great!

Need to do this!

Quick question on the seat warmer switches.
My driver side Hi and Lo function is switched around. It warms up more when on Lo. Could it be the switch itself?
I think the wiring has nothing to do with it.

It would have to be the way you wired them up. I am betting you just have the low heat on the switch wired into the high wire in the loom...

That's bad news then, trying to figure those wires out and reverse their position in the socket sucks. :(
I didn't do the job wiring everything, I just plugged everything in.

That's very nice. So where did you get the seat heater switches from (part numbers?) ?

That and which heated seat elements did you use?

Here are some great threads with a lot of the information you will need:
Seat Heater Switches
Heated Seats on Way, Question on Switch

Here are the two different types of switches:

Veritcal:
Seat Heater Switch Left side 80 Series [84751-60020] - $79.99 : CruiserParts.net, Toyota Landcruiser Parts

Horizontal:
Toyota JDM Seat Heater switches

Hope that helps

I plan to do a full write up/review eventually in a separate thread... this was just a little teaser.

EDIT: HERE IS A FULL WRITE UP ON THE INSTALL OF THE HEATED SWITCHES!

Does this mean that much like adding the CDL switch, the wiring likely already exists in my 97 to add seat heaters?

There are already plugs in the wiring loom underneath the center console in all of the trucks.. so in that sense yes.
You need to buy the switch, and then wire in the heater elements to the correct pins underneath the seat bottom.

If you refer to the links I referenced above it makes installation pretty simple.
Here is a picture of the wiring loom plugs under the center console.

Couldn't you just pull the switch, plug the "high" wire onto the high side and the "low" wire onto the low...

Sounds to me like these are just on the plug backwards.
