Made some progress on the castor correction bushings. Drilled, saw'd, out!

Followed the instructions on the correct position and distance apart, then a few good whacks with the rubber hammer to set them.

Took the them over to the 4x4 specialty shop to get them pressed in.....and was told they could do it for $200 to press the four bushings in and could squeeze me in next week. I left promptly....feeling somewhat defeated. Told my husband about it, and he took them around the corner to the Goodyear shop, 5 mins later he comes back with them pressed in! He said it took 10 seconds, and the mechanic said "no charge bro"! Geez, sometimes you 'guys' have it so easy!!

I picked up the same one a while ago. Haven't gotten around too installing it. Was a little hesitant since all the reviews said it was good but the template was worthless....

Yeah the template wasn't very good. The best it was for was helping line up the big hole. Taking your time and measuring a bunch before cutting makes it come out alright. I got the front body lines to line up perfectly with the snorkel, not so much at the back of the snorkel. But it's good enough. Good luck with yours.

$200???? That's stupid! They were totally trying to rip you off. Like your husband saw, it's a very short/easy job to press the new ones in.

You typically get two different responses from jerks like that.
Of, she doesn't know any better, I'll charge her an arm and a leg. Or, damn she's pretty, maybe I can get her phone number if I do this for free.

Right? Presses can be a very handy tool in the garage. Sort of like paying for welding at a cost of welder. Some days it just pays to buy toys and learn to do yourself.

I wouldn't know. I'm married. I'm not allowed to have a press, or a compressor, or a vise, or an bench grinder, in other words a man cave.

Aloha Jen on the other hand looks like she wears the (right) pants in that household.

Thanks man. I'll eventually get around to doing it. Seeing how it's not a priority here in az.

Nice! It's caster ... castEr... not castOr :)

Why didn't you just air him/her down or just throw a row strap and tow him out.

Well...it turns out he never aired down to begin with, on sand, so I gave him a rash and a s*** for that. Every other time was a SandMat FAILURE and then just me coming in with a tow strap and yanking him out.

Here's a list of stuff I've done over the last few weekends to my new to me LX450 (all on the weekends of course, cause thats the rules, lol)

  • rebuilt front axle and swapped birfs, new rotors and pads, new wheel bearings, and refilled diff with Redline synthetic gear oil
  • complete cooling system rebuild and block flush- new radiator, all new hoses with breeze clamps and Gates green stripe, including PHH workaround, rear heater delete, heater valve, thermostat, and prestone green antifreeze
  • took apart window motor to clean it all out, improved speed, but still not very good. Gonna be ordering new motors all around I think
  • Took apart bad door lock actuator to see what was wrong, looks like I need a new motor. Ordering new motor to rebuild the actuator. Looks like the motors are pretty cheap if you can find the right one
  • Ordered parts to keep me busy for the next couple weekends: 6.5" Pioneers for all the door speakers, Viper 5706V alarm/remote start with back-up battery and immobilizer bypass, and wiring harness for new head unit.
  • replaced the starter
  • replaced the reverse lights with 7w cree LEDs
I haven't enjoyed tinkering with a car this much since I was a teenager. Love this truck
