Finishing up this mess. I initially tried the Polyvance padded dash filler and was planning on Sem texture paint, but the dash was so brittle that everytime I touched a “good” spot the vinyl would crack.I ended up just heat gunning all the original vinyl off and recovering with Apollo 4 way stretch marine vinyl. Not perfect by any means, but I’m happy with it. The cracks and speaker grill were filled with fiber flex plastic rods and padded dash filler. If I were to do it again I would glue some very thin foam to the back of the vinyl first to help hide imperfections in the dash pad.

I want to try this.

Last day of my trip from Alabama to Louisiana and back was smooth until I was about 1 1/2 hrs from home. I left a day earlier than expected because the anticipated field work fell through, all the ponds I was investigating were dry. No big deal, just the way things work out sometimes. Because of this I decided to head home late afternoon on Sunday instead of hanging around in LA overnight. Drive was about 300 miles and all interstate therefore not bad.

During the week I had a belt that was squealing at times, the water pump belt and I'm running a JimC smog pump replacement pulley. I tightened the pulley and that quietened the squeal. Rolling up I-65 and I stop at Evergreen for fuel. Run north about 50 miles and I noticed that my water temp is climbing so I exit at the rest stop north of Greenville. Pop the hood to check the water, radiator is full.

I crank the 2F and hear an odd noise so I stop and check underhood again. Smog pump idler pulley has disintegrated. I've been running this for 150-200k miles so I was not surprised and I've been planning on buying a spare to have on hand, but been putting it off.

Time is around 2200, and I had expected to be home by 2330. I call @cruiserinsanity to look for the greasy, crusty gutted smog pump I've stashed somewhere. He finds it and hops in the 80 and brings it down to me.

I swap it in but it takes much longer than it should. I have a second battery that I should have pulled to give better access to the spot. We roll in to the house about 0145.

I did all of the work by headlamp and remember the next morning that I installed underhood LEDs just for things like this

Installed a steering gear box I rebuilt and some 4Plus u-bolt flip plates on the front. My 60 is now officially leak free and I feel like I need to have a party to celebrate.

More details in my build thread. That’s the last work before I embark on a 2F rebuild … hopefully.

View attachment 3625032Looks very nice. Do you think your caster shims are installed correctly? I was thinking they need to be fitted thick side facing front.

@Davaa Shackle reversal stuff, shims work differently for my application. This is a test anyway, I may change them soon.

Did you already have the flip kit? I thought he stopped making them, I'm going to need a flip kit at some point, not sure anyone else makes a 60 series-specific kit.
Yep, my truck had it installed when I bought it. Judging by the springs I replace I'd say it was put on circa late 90s or early 00s. Check with Man-a-Fre, they might still offer it.

Quick internal wire organisation before i took the Nomad to the Red sea with the family.

Unfortunately the AC compressor coils burnt-out for the second time. Maybw undervoltage going to ac coil?

I installed the ARB M002 and M004 harnesses from @cruiseroutfit and added some Hella H4s and H1s with upgraded 100/80 and 100 watt bulbs. Install was very straightforward using the included instructions and an awesome Mud thread, everything works as it should (including the high beam indicator) and holy smokes it’s bright now!! There are some less expensive LED kits out there and I’m sure they’re great but I wanted to keep the more classic headlight look for my build. If you’re on the fence about this mod just do it!

First pic is sealed Sylvania’s, second pic is low beams after install and third is high beams after install.
