Wow, I missed the updated to this thread. Terrain Tamer Parabolic's stateside, what a time to be alive! Really curious to hear real-world (non-sponsored) feedback on them. Since deciding to keep my 62 leaf sprung, I've been trying to figure...
I'm planning to swap out my Homebrew long-range tank for one that someone with a brain actually designed. While I'm currently still leaf sprung, I've been wondering if I should try to get a tank that is "future-proof" in case I decide to go coil...
Thanks, I figured that's all it was. I've tried prying it off with a few different tools, even putting a tiny dent in my tailgate. I'll hit it with PB blaster or something and let it soak before trying again.
@NookShneer Thanks for that! I'm still on the fence about painting my ratty/peeling grille and surrounds black so I was on the fence on the chrome or black. I think the black surround would "flow" a little better if I paint the grille. It's...
If I'm going the tank replacement route I will probably get a legit long-range tank, either Man-a-fre or Long Range Automotive. I don't want to go through all this trouble to have to fill up every 180 miles.
@diesellibrarian Your build...
Slow going so far, I've been picking away at disassembly, a bit of cleaning, and removing a lot of flaky rust.
Originally I was convinced I could handle all the bodywork, frame paint, and suspension with the body on. But after seeing some...
Another thing that came up when I was diagnosing my starting problems was the Cold start injector. Once I got all the electrical/ignition problems sorted, I was still having issues getting the engine to turn over when it was cold (not ambient...
This is reminding me of the same issues I had with my 89 a few years ago. I was chasing a starting/electrical gremlin and ended up replacing the battery (it was old anyway), installed a new Alternator, then installed a new (non-oem) starter...
I'm in the same boat as you with about the same amount of rust on my 89, while I haven't started to tackle it, I'm planning on doing it myself. I've never done body work, rust repair or paint but a lot of threads on here have inspired me to...
Ok, maybe I misinterpreted the thread I saw. That's good to know, Scheel-mann's are on my long list of upgrades and I figured I'd go all-in and get the rear seats done at the same time.
Can we get an update on options in 2023? I think OTRAMM stopped making their systems. I'm dropping my whole exhaust soon and I have a feeling most it will be toast and I'll need to replace everything, she's pretty crusty.
Is Scheel-Mann selling you extra fabric to do the rear seats? I thought I remember seeing somewhere that they were going to stop doing that because they don't have quality control over the final product.
Nice write-up. I have the Cruisercrap console which is similar to the Tuffy, I made a "Temporary" mount for my console a couple of years ago to figure out height and position and never got around to making it more permanent. This is on my to-do...
What did you paint the leaves with? Did you grease in between them or any other product? I've read more than I care to admit about paint/not painting leaf springs and there doesn't seem to be a consensus.
Fantastic work! I just read through the entire thread, it's given me a ton of ideas and tips for my restoration. Forgive me if you already mentioned it, what kind of paint and color did you use for the Exterior items? The grille, rear vents...
Does Dobinson's make Parabolic springs for the 60 series? I can't find them on their website. There are actually a couple Dobinsons's retailers close to me.
I'm extremely interested as well. The Aussie's seem to love parabolics, but they haven't seemed to get much traction stateside. I saw the Terrain Tamer kit for the 60 but I haven't been able to find a dealer/distributor in the US, I'm scared to...
