I was doing work on an apartment in a complex and one of the tenants in another unit broke a mercury thermometer and it got in the carpet. They pulled out a vac. Bad move. Hazmat crew from the fire department showed up and evacuated their place. Then the "experts" showed up to clean up the mess. Glad they weren't my tenants.

All I could think of was playing with mercury on a lab table. Probably explains some of my behavior later on.

I was soldering the connections on an electric guitar when I was in my early 20’s in shorts and a giant wad of molten hot silver/lead dropped onto my knee. Like a dumbass I slapped it with my hand to get it off and it splattered and got on my hand. it took almost ten years for the red welt to subside, but at 36 years old I still have the scar in the shape of the splatter. Never saw a Dr about it.... who knows what it’s done to me...

This little red welt on my wrist is from a diamond tester when I was also in my early 20’s. I worked in a pawn shop and we had a hand held tester. Diamonds reflect a specific temperature at a specific rate and the tester is designed to send and receive that heat information. I leaned my wrist against it by accident with the cap off the probe. It burned like hell. That little red dot never went away. Weird.

Converted another defrost switch to control my hidden spot lamps. Love the @ChaserFJ60 panel. I think I may reorganize the switches soon to have them grouped more by function.

Washed my 60. They were doing concrete cutting in front of work. Geez she was so dang dusty. The driveway was gray after washing and rinsing.

Made a list of to dos...

Replace all wiper arms and associated parts..blades, nuts, plastic covers

Install the last piece SOR vinyl floor mat

Fix my front wiper sprayer..it's clogged.

Get estimate on roof paint/gutter reseal land replace front windshield ...been cracked and now tired of looking at it..it's on passenger side.

Buy all the oil/washers/ new drain plugs for differential/transmission/transfer case change..it's been @ 3 years

Oil pan gasket needs replacing and oil pan could use a cleaning and painting

Now to de smog or not...

If you go that route, box up everything that you remove. You’ll figure it out later.
Here's my dilemma. It's 98% original under the hood. And it runs greag...114K original miles. I go to a Cruiser roundup last weekend NRH TX and meet Mike from @CruiserCorps. He advised my cruiser is worth with original condition and more than I estimate
I did some searching on cruiser sales. In the 6 years I had mine, values have gone up like gold did.

No plans for that in immediate future. I like driving her on my weekends.

Maybe devane the smog pump and call it good?

Bottom line is, believe it or not it’s worth more with all the emissions stuff in place. For piece of mind, buy a used air pump and send it to BZ Rebuilders and have a ready to install spare. That’s the component most likely to fail and leave you stranded. Don’t ask me how I know.

Get a pump elimination pulley, rebuild your pump and put it on the shelf for later when you go to sell.

Mounted my headers, intake manifold, and after some careful modifications mounted the adapter for the sniper...

Yes, the drill and grinder/vise worked. Yes, it was sketchy as hell with that disc right at my heart/lung level. No, I don’t suggest doing it.... but I did it anyway...cuz I had to... sketchy...

Then I broke my power steering pump down for a much needed rebuild only to discover I ordered the kit for a 62 rather than the 60. So I ordered the correct kit and started on the steering gear box. Got that broken down and put back together after many curses to the cruiser gods... and now we’re waiting for paint to dry...

that's an annual event? tell me more; looks like a blast and worth coming down from Portland for. I grew up with VWs so I'm naturally into whatever is happening there

It is! They do it every year. It's typically the last week of August, and wraps up on labor day. It's south of Bend, South West of La Pine. Sooo much fun, and some really cool rigs! We were 2 of maybe 5 Cruisers that were there.

Dang, look how dry and hazy Oregon is! I haven't gotten out at all this season. Definitely the driest summer I've experienced here in the last 20 yrs.

Flying VW's., daring and crazy stuff. However, just like the Landcruisers, you see VW's all over the world in all kinds of environments.
